Do I have to register to participate in the Walk?

YES. The Komen Philadelphia MORE THAN PINK Walk will be a contained event, requiring registration for entry (registrants will receive/can pick up a wrist band that must be worn at the Walk site to gain entry or present the QR code provided via email when you registered). Moreover, registration fees are needed to cover the cost of materials and services for the event.

Should I register my children for the Walk?

Absolutely! We offer a special registration rate for children ages 3 to 12 (children 2 & under are free). Kids can also fundraise and be recognized by receiving a T-shirt when they raise $100. Every year, young people take pride in saving pennies, hosting pink lemonade sales, asking friends and families to donate, and finding other creative ways to help support the cause—moreover, their success is making a huge impact on our ability to save lives!

Am I required to fundraise/donate?

Fundraising is the foundation of our ability to fund breakthrough research, provide free service for people in need and offer other lifesaving programs year-round in our 15 counties. We encourage all participants to raise at least $250. If you are registered and would like to be recognized with a 2020 Komen Philadelphia MORE THAN PINK Walk T-shirt, you must have at least $100 in fundraising submitted by the day of the Walk. Fundraising at least $100 also makes you eligible to receive a gift through our fundraiser recognition program.

Other than my fundraiser recognition T-shirt, how can I get Komen-branded gear to wear at the Walk and year-round?

We suggest you start now by exploring ShopKomen.com. More information will be coming soon about additional commemorative merchandise. All sales will support Komen Philadelphia’s mission.

What if I cannot pay the registration fee?

If you cannot pay the registration fee, we encourage you to look for a sponsor to underwrite registration for you and your family and friends. Many businesses, community groups and even neighbors will welcome this opportunity. You may also make an impact by donating a lesser amount to the Walk or a Walk participant. If you call or visit Komen Philadelphia, a member of our team can also help you find a different way to get involved and make an impact—such as by becoming a volunteer or community ambassador who helps us connect with women in need of our service area.

What will happen to people who come to the Walk but who aren’t registered?

The MORE THAN PINK Walk will be contained. There will be multiple entry gates at Eakins Oval  with personnel to ensure that anyone entering the site has proof of registration ID (i.e., event wrist band or QR code sent via email when you registered). Anyone who is not registered will have the opportunity to register onsite and then gain immediate access to the event.

Where do I go once I arrive at the event?

Register: If you have not yet registered, your first stop should be at one of the two registration stations. Remember, our MORE THAN PINK Walk is a contained event, and registration is necessary for entry.

Enter through one of the Entry Gates: To enter the event, please present your proof of registration to a volunteer at one of the Entry Gates at Eakins Oval, not far from the registration stations. The possible proofs of registration are:

  • Wrist band, which will be sent to you if you registered by the deadline for mailing (TBD) or can be picked up at one of the registration areas on the Walk site by those who register after the mailing deadline.
  • The QR code that was provided with your confirmation email. Your QR code will also be provided in the pre-walk email, sent to you about one week before the Walk.  Please print it out or have it available on your cell phone to be shown at an Entry Gate.

Opening Ceremony: Arrive at the base of the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art no later than 7:30 a.m. for our opening ceremonies, Parade of Hope and the start of our community walk. Please note that the walk will begin at the base of the steps immediately following the Parade of Hope.

Donations: If you have donations to submit, or a recognition t-shirt to pick up (for raising $100 or more!), please go to the Donation tent for assistance.

Stroll the site, before or after the Walk: There will be tents around the site to emphasize the four pillars of the Komen Mission:  Research, Care, Community, Action. In addition, we will have our “We Remember” tent offering you the opportunity to share memories of those lost to breast cancer, unique experiences presented by our top-tier sponsors, activities for kids, VIP Team tent and a surprise thank-you celebration for all our participants.

The Walk: The Walk will be led by our survivors and metastatic breast cancer thrivers following the Opening Ceremony and will proceed counter clockwise around Eakins Oval, down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, around Logan Circle and back to the Oval, just under 2 miles. Participants can do any distance by simply returning to the Oval at any point.

What happens in the case of inclement weather, if the Walk is postponed until a later date and/or if I register or can no longer attend?

This event will occur rain or shine. We reserve the right to cancel in extreme circumstances. No refunds will be issued. Please note this includes refunds for the rescheduling of the Walk due to the circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 (coronavirus) in the spring of 2020. If we cancel this event due to extreme weather or other circumstances, or if a registered participant cannot/does not attend the event, entry fees will be used as donations to Susan G. Komen® Philadelphia.
