Susan G. Komen® Philadelphia MORE THAN PINK Virtual Walk™

Sun June 28, 2020 Philadelphia, PA 19107 US

Where the Money Goes

Plain and simple, the money you help us raise in support of this MORE THAN PINK Virtual Walk will be used to save the lives of individuals facing, at risk for or who one day will be threatened by breast cancer. The dollars we raise together will help advance our vision of a world without breast cancer—that is, a world in which every person diagnosed with any form of this disease is assured not only to survive, but to live a quality life after breast cancer.

Money raised will be allocated as follows:

  • 75% remains in our 15-county service area to support local initiatives including, but not limited to: the Komen Philadelphia Patient Assistance Program—one of the most critical needs as families face the financial challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic—community grants program, empowerment programs for survivors and individuals living with metastatic breast cancer, outreach initiatives connecting the most at-risk populations to free services offering the current standard of breast health care, awareness and educational programs specified for a variety of populations (from women in need to women and men “of means”!), culturally diverse and customized events designed to mobilize populations to practice lifesaving breast health, and much more.
  • 25% will support breakthrough breast cancer research. This includes funding work in the labs to deepen understanding of the disease and its various forms and to develop more effective treatments as well as clinical trials.

Due, in large part, to the money raised by participants in Komen Philadelphia’s largest one-day fundraiser, in the past 29 years Komen Philadelphia has:

  • Distributed more than $63.5 million in grants to fund the programs of local hospitals and outreach community health organizations
  • Funded more than 184,500 free mammograms for women in our community
  • Contributed approximately $28 million to breast cancer research

Every dollar you raise as a MORE THAN PINK Walk participant will support Komen Philadelphia’s 360-degree approach to attacking breast cancer on all fronts and advance our Bold Goals:

  • Nationally: To reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths by 50 percent by the year 2026
  • Locally: To reduce the number of late-stage breast cancer diagnoses by 15 percent by the year 2021

    Thank you for your participation!
