Note: The 20 Mile route is considered a Beginners route.

Start Time: 8:15am   

ESTIMATED TIME TO COMPLETE: The 20 Mile ride should take 1.5 - 2.5 hours to complete.

COURSE: The 20 Mile course is mostly flat with a few rolling hills and takes advantage of the Los Angeles River Path, which is protected from vehicular traffic. It starts in Chinatown and enters the restored Los Angeles River, which has been transformed into a sanctuary for a variety of birds and other wildlife. 

 View the architectural bridges, cafes and even a bike shop that has sprouted up along the river. This is an easy and relaxed route that is perfect for beginners and intermediate riders. There are restrooms along the route. Refreshments will be provided at the rest stop at the turn-around in Griffith Park. 

RIDE SPEED: This is not a race. Travel at a safe speed with due regard for others on the route. A pace of 9 mph is sufficient for the 20 Mile ride.

REST STOP LOCATION: The Pecan Grove Picnic Area in Griffith Park on Zoo Drive, just north of the Zoo parking lot in Griffith Park. Porta potties and refreshments such as water, fruit, and snacks will be available to registered riders with a Race Bib.

50 MILE BIKE RIDE

50 MILE BIKE RIDE

Note: This is a challenging course and is more appropriate for advanced bike riders.

 Start Time: 8am

ESTIMATED TIME TO COMPLETE: The 50 Mile ride may take 2.5 - 5 hours to complete. 

REST STOP LOCATIONS: Porta potties and refreshments such as water, fruit, and snacks, will be available to registered riders with a Race Bib.

INFO APPLIES TO BOTH BIKE RIDES

WHAT TO BRING: You should come prepared with basic bike tools, including spare tubes, pump, cartridges, etc. Bike Marshals (Bike Monitors) on bikes and/or vehicles will carry spare tubes and can assist with any mechanical problems.

START/FINISH LINE: 943 N. Broadway, Los Angeles  90012, near the pedestrian crosswalk located mid-block.

Note: There are different start groups for the 20 Mile and 50 Mile rides. Please look for the appropriate signs and banners for your ride.

BEFORE THE RIDE:

  • Pick up Race Bib and/or Race Packet at 424 W. College Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012, Lower Parking Lot, beginning at 6am on Saturday, the day of the event. You may drop off your Race Packet at Bag Check-In (Chinatown Central Plaza) to avoid taking it with you on the ride. Any items not claimed by 2:30pm will be donated. Firecracker assumes no responsibility or liability for any lost and/or damaged items.
  • Or you may pick up your Race Packet along with your Medal after the ride at the Chinatown Central Plaza. 

SIGNS on ROUTE: Turn arrows will be posted along the route at all turns for the 20 Mile and 50 Mile Bike rides. 

NOT ALL STREETS CLOSED on ROUTE:  Only parts of the route on public streets will be closed. Participants MUST adhere to traffic rules of the road. Be aware of other riders and surrounding vehicles. Ride safely.

To ensure you’re on the right route, review and download the online map and turn-by-turn route slip at the Firecracker website for reference. Check back often for last minute revisions. While on the route, pay attention to the color coded directional arrow signage at key intersections. 

SAFETY: Bike helmets are MANDATORY. Bike Marshals (Bike Monitors) will be riding along with the participants to ensure safety of riders and provide assistance, as needed.

INCOMPLETE RIDE:  If you cannot complete the ride for any reason, Firecracker will dispatch a sweep truck and bring you to a nearby Metro station to return to Chinatown.

INJURY ON COURSE, EMERGENCY TREATMENT: An EMT vehicle and technicians will be available on the course. In case of emergency, flag down a Bike Monitor on route who will call in for an EMT vehicle or sweep vehicle to help. If it is a serious injury, call 911.

AFTER THE RIDE:

  • Bike Valet Service: You may park your bike using the complimentary Bike Valet service located at the Chinatown Central Plaza.
  • Self-Park: You may self-park your bike but you should bring a suitable bike restraint. Do not secure bike to a store front gate or to a stranger’s bike. Firecracker assumes no responsibility or liability for any lost and/or damaged bikes.
  • Free Carbo Load Meal: After the ride, you can have a Carbo-Load meal in Chinatown from 10am-2pm. In addition, there may be booth vendors serving food and beverage samples.

 Unchained Bicycle Garage will have their mobile bike shops near the Start/Finish Line area for any mechanical assistance prior to the start of the event as well as on the route to support registered riders.

FAQs

1. Are E-Bikes Allowed?
Electric assisted bikes are welcomed at this event if they are Class 1 or 3 (no electric motorcycles) and you keep a pace consistent with the group.

 

2. What if I Want to Change Rides?
Event changes will incur a cost if the price of the event has increased or if the event changed to, is a different price.  You may change your event by logging into your account and making the change yourself. There are no refunds if you are changing to a less expensive event. For on-site changes, go to the SOLUTIONS booth near the registration site.
