The swim is in Lac La Belle, starting at City Beach.
It’s a rolling wave start with 3–4 athletes entering about every 3 seconds. Sprint athletes enter first, followed by Half Iron, then Olympic. Athletes should self-seed by anticipated swim time (slower toward the back).
Absolutely. They are strongly encouraged if you are not a strong open water swimmer. If athletes need further accommodation, please contact us.
Swim angels are permitted as well. Contact us to register them.
Usually yes—late July water temps are typically mid-70s, making it generally wetsuit legal. Wetsuit rules are based on water temperature:
• Below 78°F: wetsuits OK
• 78–83.9°F: allowed but may be ineligible for awards
• 84°F+: discouraged
Yes—5:00 PM to 7:00 PM the night before. Athletes are strongly encouraged to stage gear then. Transition is secured/guarded overnight.
Transition opens at 5:00 AM and closes at 6:15 AM. Athletes must be body-marked and have their bib to enter/exit. Only athletes are permitted in transition.
Half Iron athletes pass a bike aid station around miles 17 and 41 with water and Gatorade, plus a bathroom. There is no bike aid station for Sprint or Olympic—plan to carry your own.
It’s an out-and-back through neighborhoods on the south shore of Lac La Belle. Sprint/Olympic do one out-and-back; Half Iron does two out-and-backs.
There are four run aid stations that runners pass multiple times depending on distance, plus aid in transition and at the finish.
Headphones are allowed on the run but NOT allowed during the bike or swim.
Wear your ankle timing chip the whole race; follow staff/volunteer instructions; no trash outside designated areas; understand the course; helmet required on bike; drafting not allowed; bib must be visible on the run.
The team captain registers first, creates the team name, and pays. Then each teammate registers individually, selects Relay (fee waived later), and joins the existing group by choosing the team name.

Please note that Bank Five Nine has graciously allowed us to use their parking lot, but they need a few parking stall for their customers. There will be a section of the parking lot that is coned off. Do NOT move the cones. If you do, your car will be towed and impounded. You will also be banned for life from any SCS event. Don't be that guy.
Kinda. We expect the race to sell out. If it doesn’t, online registration will stay open until the start time.

Awesome volunteers. Please thank them for making your day awesome.
Of course.
Heck ya! Just let us know and we will take care of it.
Please do not just "give" them your registration as it will mess up results. There is NO CHARGE to transfer an entry.
There is one porto on the half iron bike course at the aid station.
There are multiple portos at the boat launch parking lot and in transition.
We recommend using the boat launch portos on the run course. It is adjacent to the turn.
Yes! There are plenty of restaurants in Downtown Oconomowoc. If you visit a local restaurant, coffee shop, or retailer, please let them know you’re in town for the triathlon!
Some of our favorite spots in the area:
-
Fiesta Cancun – Mexican
-
Von Loppy’s – A “dive bar” vibe, but very clean with great bar food. They don’t serve their full food menu on weekends—mostly pizza (which is also very good).
-
Lucky Chucky’s – Our go-to place on Silver Lake with great food and an even better view.
Oconomowoc also has plenty of national chain restaurants, most of which are located near the I-94 / Hwy 67 intersection.
Our best advice is to get in the open water and swim—swim a lot. Open water swimming is nothing like swimming in a pool.
Swim buoys and wetsuits are encouraged. If you need further assistance, please contact us.
Swim angels are also welcome. Contact us and we’ll get them registered.
No. We will have a vehicle on course to transport athletes, but unfortunately there will not be a mechanic.
Unfortunately bike mechanics are a rare species. We will have a tire pump(s), but won't have a mechanic. Well, unless you know someone...we would love to have them.
The Bicycle Dr in Dousman. We stongly encourage you to have your bike serviced before the event, carry a tire change kit and know how to use it! The Bike Dr. is only open until 6:00pm on Friday.
Our good friends at Performance Running Outfitters has a store in Delafield.
Yes. Our friends at A3 Performance will be providing them and they must be worn. If you have a latex sensitivity issue, please contact us and we will make the appropriat accomodations.
A3 is locate 2 miles from the race site.

We encourage spectators to stay at the beach. They’ll be able to see you as you enter/exit the water and move through transition.
Because Oconomowoc is surrounded by lakes and we close the main east/west road, it’s very difficult to access the bike and run courses. We strongly encourage spectators not to try to get on the bike or run course, and please, please, please do not drive on the course.
The course will be marked with color-coordinated tape on the bike course. The tape will match your swim cap color.
Two other important course markings:
Branch & Ski Slide Road
At this intersection, Sprint and Olympic athletes will turn right on their first lap and head back toward transition. Half Iron athletes will turn left for their second lap. When you see this sign for the second time, you will turn right and head back to transition.
Evergreen Road turnaround
There is a short out-and-back on Evergreen Road for the Half Iron and Olympic. The road is narrow, so please enter the turn slowly—you don’t want road rash this early in the bike course.
At the bike aid station, there will be water bottles, Gatorade bottles, and a porta potty. If you’d like to dispose of bottles, please do so in the designated drop zones. Please do not throw them on the ground—trust us, the farmers will not be happy with you.
