Bike Course Marshal - #2 (Ski Slide & Branch ... south)

You must be 16 or older to volunteer for this task.

July 31, 2027

Details

Bike Course Marshals will be stationed at key intersections and turns to direct athletes, watch for traffic or hazards, and help keep the route clear.

Additional Details:
Riders will first approach your intersection traveling north on Ski Slide Road. At this point in the race, your job is simple—stand back, cheer them on, and monitor the intersection.
Approximately 15–20 minutes later, you'll begin seeing riders traveling south on Branch Road. Most of these athletes will turn right at the intersection and head toward the finish line.
From approximately 6:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m., you should expect a steady stream of cyclists approaching from both directions.
Beginning around 8:15 a.m. (starting with the fastest Half Iron athletes), some riders will turn left at this intersection to begin their second lap of the bike course. In total, you should expect approximately 200 Half Iron athletes to make this left turn.
When an athlete is turning left:
• Stop any vehicle traffic on Ski Slide Road to allow the rider to complete the turn safely.
• Once the rider has completed the turn, allow traffic to continue.
One helpful way to direct athletes is to call out:
"Right to the finish! Half Iron left for your second lap!"
Feel free to use similar wording—anything that clearly tells athletes where they should be going.
After 9:45 a.m., no athletes should be turning left to begin a second lap.

You must be 16 or older to volunteer for this task.

July 31, 2027

Details

Bike Course Marshals will be stationed at key intersections and turns to direct athletes, watch for traffic or hazards, and help keep the route clear.

Dress: Please wear your volunteer shirt and the provided safety vest for visibility. While this road is very lightly traveled, please remain mindful of any vehicle traffic and always stay aware of your surroundings.
Parking: Please park on the shoulder of Wiley Road south of the intersection. We don't want parked vehicles clogging the intersection or limiting visibility. There are several wider areas along the shoulder where you can safely park without needing to pull too far off the road.
Timeline: Please arrive by 7:30 AM so you have time to park and familiarize yourself with the location. The first riders will likely reach your intersection around 7:45 AM. You should only need to remain at your intersection until approximately 10:00 AM. There will still be riders on the course after 10:00 AM, but they should all be Half Iron athletes completing their second lap of the course and will be slower athletes who are already familiar with this intersection.
