The 2021 Commit to Get Fit took place on Sunday, September 26. During the 24 hours before the event, it rained some, and during the several hours before and during the event it rained particularly hard. Notwithstanding the rain, hardy souls gathered at Broadway Park and ran in the Fun Run, 5K, 10K and walked in the 5K walk. To see photos from the event, click here and/or here (special thanks to Ryan Haskell and Phil Dumond for taking these wonderful pictures).
$125,000 in gifts, sponsorships and registration fees were generated by the event, which will go toward St. Joe's SAFE program. Thanks to all for making that a reality! We are particularly grateful to all 486 registrants and 176 volunteers!

This year race day registration will be limited to just 8:00 to 8:30 am and will take place at Broadway Park where the race/walk will start and finish.
Packet Pick-Up Packet pick-up will be available on Friday, September 24th from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm at the Clift Darling House, 106 Congress Street in Bangor.
The in-person Commit to Get Fit is planned for Sunday, September 25th! We are looking forward to this day of celebration, and we hope you will begin making plans NOW to join us that day. Changing one's diet and health habits over the time leading up to the event will make the day one where we can all truly celebrate. Once again, all monies raised/donated will go to St. Joe's Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) program, the program at St. Joe's that provides professional nursing care for victims of sexual assault and helps to educate members of the community about ways to prevent sexual assault.
This year we are hoping all registrants will create personal fundraising pages. These personal fundraising pages are easy to set-up using this website. If each participant asked their friends on social media to chip in $10, the SAFE program at St. Joe's could expand its coverage and help many more people.
2022 is going to be so great! Sign-up early to make your commitment to improved fitness and wellness in 2022.
Medals will be given to male and female 10k runners and 5k runners who finish first in their age group (11-14, 15-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79 and 80-99).
The 2022 Commit to Get Fit will once again be all about fitness! On September 25th we will gather together at Broadway Park to celebrate all that has been achieved to improve health, wellness and overall fitness in 2021. This will be the 4th Commit to Get Fit, and we are so excited to be planning for an in-person get together!

Our course is one of the best parts of this event! Check out a fun photo show on Youtube to see what we mean! Both the 5K and the 10K go into downtown Bangor, along the Kenduskeag Stream and through the Little City neighborhood in Bangor. Much of the course is on pavement, but there are some portions that are on unpaved trails (keep that in mind if you are thinking of pushing a stroller!). The 10k also runs through the Husson University campus. These are beautiful courses that will be a delight for walkers and slower runners and will be challenging for those seeking a tough race. Below are photos of Husson students who volunteered on their campus in 2019 to greet and support 10k runners and of runners enjoying the trail that runs along the Kenduskeag Stream. After the inaugural Commit to Get Fit, race organizers, including experienced local runners, explored whether to reverse the course direction (there are some hills in this course!). They concluded that keeping the race course direction the same made the most sense - there is a nice downhill stretch to the finish!
Unlike most 5k and 10k races, this course features a mix of city running, rural running and trail running.
To learn more about the course, watch this video of Sub5 Running Club's David Farrar and Epic Sports' (and Race Director) Brad Ryder.
St. Joe's employees are passionate about helping others. Lots of the employees have walked or run in the Commit and will be doing so this year, too. Many will be volunteering. Check out this fun video of St. Joe's employees encouraging their friends to join them on September 26th!
Those who register before August 19th are guaranteed of receiving a T-shirt in their size. We will order extras, but there will be no guarantee you'll receive a shirt or one in your size for registrations that are made after 8/19/22. And for those who let us know by August 19th that this will be your first 5K, we will have a special shirt for you. If you are an experienced runner, we'd love to see our race T-shirts around town in the off-season. Either way, you know you want the shirt. In 2021 we honored Dragonfly Physical Therapy and PC Load Letter on the t-shirt for being the largest team in the 2020 race, and in 2022 we will be honoring Dragonfly Physical Therapy, as they had the largest team in 2021. So, form the biggest team you can now to see if your team might appear on the 2023 t-shirt! Pictured below are the Sport-Tek® PosiCharge® Competitor™ Tees for Ladies and Men that be provided in 2021. A new look will appear in 2022!
