GVSU Turkey Trot 2019

Helping local children is a cause near and dear to the GVSU Cross Country and Track Club. Every year the club organizes a 5k run/walk race, the Turkey Trot, to benefit the Kids’ Food Basket of Grand Rapids. Groups like Kids’ Food Basket help hungry children by providing them a Sack Supper every night. Sack suppers give children in need access to fresh, healthy foods to help nourish their bodies and minds. Each supper is bundled in a decorated bag often decorated by donors or volunteers, including  our own club team. In Western Michigan alone over 8,000 students are receiving these bags daily between 47 schools, and there are still 30 schools on the waiting list.  

Our commitment goes beyond fundraising as our team volunteers at the organization helping decorate, fill and organize the Sack Suppers. Not only do we help and raise money to donate to this amazing charity, but we find it just as important to raise awareness about what this charity provides for thousands of young students within our own community.
