RIDE START: Charles Wright Museum of African and American History
Onsite registration, check-in and coffee will be provided between 9 and 10 am. The program starts at 10 am, and the ride will depart at approximately 10:20 a.m. Map can be found HERE.
We are thrilled to share that the city of Detroit's Historian Jamon Jordan will be speaking about Dr. King, his time in Detroit and the history of inequality in transportation and more. If you have not heard him speak you will be blown away by his ability to connect current events to past history in an incredibly entertaining and easy to comprehend way. This year we are pleased to announce our partnership with the Charles Wright Museum of African American History! This allows riders to more seamlessly begin their day at the museum, partake in the free and ticketed activities at the museum throughout the entire day.
Before the ride, coffee & hot chocolate will be served from Sepia Coffee. The route is approximately 10 miles and will take in several historical sites relevant to King and other local activists that were integral to the 1963 March to Freedom and the impact of the "I Have a Dream" speech delivered at Cobo Arena afterwards.
The mission of the Tour de Troit is to promote and encourage bicycling and bicycle safety through education, public events, collaboration with community and government organizations and support for non-motorized infrastructure. The Tour de Troit, the city’s largest cycling event, raises awareness of biking as a mode of transportation and publicizes the growing greenways network in the City of Detroit and all of Southeastern Michigan. Tour de Troit also produces and supports other events that promote a healthy lifestyle and city, including the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Bike Ride, PaczKi Run and Tour d'Eastside.
