DeWitt Take a Breath for PH and Get Moving For MS

Important Update

Dear DeWitt Take a Breath for PH and Get Moving for MS supporter,

We have strived to put on a fun, safe, family friendly community event for the past eight years.  It is with great sadness and disappointment that we will not be able to host, in person, the 2020 DeWitt Take a Breath for PH and Get Moving for MS races.  Due to the governor’s executive order banning large events and the closure of schools, this has resulted in not having access to the DeWitt High School Track.  In addition, we are committed to making sure all of the participants and volunteers remain safe and healthy.

With that said, the race must go on and we have decided to continue with the race as a VIRTUAL RUN/WALK.  How does a virtual event work?  We encourage everyone to run or walk on their own either outside or on a treadmill – any distance, any pace, any time, any location.  We would love to see pictures and posts of your achievements on our Facebook page, using hashtag #PHightMS.

Additionally this year, $5 of each Virtual Registration, and 10% of donations made to Team Mackenzie, will go towards the local food banks at the Catholic Community of St. Jude and Redeemer United Methodist Church.  This virtual run or walk will still allow everyone to contribute to a worthy cause, all while providing motivation to be active.

Registered participants will automatically be transferred to the virtual race and will receive a finisher’s medal and a t-shirt (if registered for one).  Registration will stay open until May 16 if any other runners would like to support our mission of helping PH and MS patients and their families, as well as local food pantries.  Details as to how you can get your medal and t-shirt are still being worked out, and we will notify you at a later date as to how it will transpire.   If you are not interested in running virtually and receiving a t-shirt and medal, you can transfer your registration into a donation to our charities below.

From a fundraising standpoint, our event is an important fundraiser for the Pulmonary Hypertension Association and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.  We have been able to help provide funding for important research and patient assistance programs. Over our eight years, we have donated over $140,000 to our charities.  This year alone our Team Fundraisers have raised more than $11,000.

It cannot be overstated how disappointed we are to not host a live event, as a lot of time, energy, and money has been spent in preparation of the event.   We will miss having the privilege of seeing the joy on people’s faces when they complete their first half marathon, the smiles and happiness when PH or MS patients cross the finish line, and the kid’s delight when they receive their finisher medal.  We are proud to provide an opportunity for families to participate in this event together, for people to show support for loved ones battling incurable diseases, or for locals to compete in the Greater Lansing Area Race Series.

While we do have a no refund policy, we are well aware of the life-changing implications for many people due to COVID-19.  If your registration/donation will create a financial hardship for your family, please feel free to contact us directly at

Thank you for your understanding of this difficult situation, and we wish everyone good health in the upcoming months.  We will undoubtedly be back in 2021 and hope to see you at our next event!
