SGRAIL Swim Course
1,500 meter swin in the protected waters of San Pablo Bay.
Wave start every five minutes, on a well marked and supported triangluar course made up of three buoys before heading back into Transition 1.
SF Swim Club will be managing the swim course, ensuring all athletes safety.
Course may change based on tide, current, and water quality.
SGRAIL Bike Course
40 km on Point San Pedro Road and North San Pedro Road — one short lap + three long laps. Road, gravel or mountain bike — everyone is welcome.
We plan to have timing mats at all the turnarounds to ensure all athletes have completed the full bike course.
As you exit T1, there will be a Mount/Dismount zone. Have your bike helmet on and clipped out of Transition before entering the Mount Zone. Mount your bike within this zone ONLY.
The first half mile up Cantera Way is a climb, be ready to grind from the get go! At the top you will make the right onto Point San Pedro Rd and within a quarter mile (.75 miles) you will slow to make the first turn for the small loop at Biscayne Drive and Point San Pedro Drive. Listen to the staff assisting as they are focused on your safety as you manage this portion of the race. Your first long loop starts when you hit the next turnaround at Point San Pedro Dr and McNears Brickyard Rd at mile 1.7. You are now off to the races completing three long loops. The big loop turnaround is at China Camp State Park main entrance at Back Ranch Rd, mile 5.5. This is is your longest stretch (3.8 Miles one-way and 7.6 Miles round trip). You complete the long loop THREE times. After your third complete loop you will have 1.1 Miles from McNears Brickyard Rd back to T2.
Course Segments
Bike start to completion of small loop (T1 -> McNears Brickyard Rd) = 1.7 Miles
Long loop (McNears Brickyard Rd -> Back Ranch Rd -> Back Ranch Rd) = 7.6 Miles
Final Stretch (McNears Brickyard Rd -> T2) = 1.1 Miles
You'll see, when looking at the course, Cantera Way is a climb out of the T1and a steep decent back into T2. Due to this and our desire to have a safe and fair playing field. ALL CYCLISTS, when finishing the bike course, will have a mandadatory "FOOT DOWN" stop coming down Cantera Way, prior to the dismount zone. This is to make sure your decent is controlled and all athletes, spectators and staff are safe as bikes are returning. Not abiding by this mandatory stop on the decent will be a disqualification, not a penalty, we are ensuring everyone who comes to the event goes home in one piece.
SGRAIL Run Course
10K Run from T2 to the finish. You will run out of T2 and run up Cantera Way to Point San Pedro Road. You will make a left on Point San Pedro Road and head west to your first water stop that is 1.7 Miles away. You will then turn back around and run to the turnaround point at the top of Cantera Way on Point San Pedro Road. That is your first loop. Complete the loop one more time and then final homestrech!
