Refuge Adventurer Challenge

We’re excited to announce a fun, optional game as part of this year’s Moosehorn Ghost Run Half Marathon: the Refuge Adventurer Challenge. 

As you run through Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge, you’ll spot special black-and-white challenge signs around certain mile markers. Each sign has a QR code and a short wildlife-themed question or task. Scan the code with your phone, submit your answer, and earn points toward becoming a Refuge Adventurer. Claim your prize at the Friends table at the finish line. 

How it Works

• 7 Challenge Stations are placed roughly at Miles 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12.

• Each completed challenge earns +5 or +10 points.

• Challenges include Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge trivia, wildlife ID, photo uploads, simple stewardship task, and short reflections.

• A link will go live on race day with the quiz link.

Scoring & Prizes

• Points are tallied after the race using your responses.

• Recognition as Refuge Adventurers with shout-outs and prizes at the finish.

 What You Need

• A smartphone with camera and internet access.

• Your bib number (entered when you scan and submit).

• A willingness to have fun, notice nature, and explore Moosehorn’s wild side.

Important Notes

• The challenge is completely optional — no effect on official timing.

• Please step aside when scanning to keep the trail clear.

• All challenges can be completed at the finish line too, but where's the fun in that...

• A digital finishers badge will also be sent to you.
