This chipped and timed race appeals to competitive runners aiming for personal bests, while the fun walk/run offers an opportunity for families and community members to participate in a more relaxed manner. Most of the race will be held on the scenic Latham Park Greenway, with the start and finish line will at the Greensboro Public Safety Training Grounds. Participants will also enjoy post-race interactions with local emergency responders, activities, and more! And for those who don’t mind a little adventure, a towel at the finish line will come in handy!
This event is more than just a race; it’s a tribute to Chip Seaver, whose life was a testament to service and dedication. After serving his country as a Marine serving two tours as a front-line Scout Sniper in Operation Desert Storm, Chip continued his legacy of service as a firefighter with the Greensboro Fire Department. Chip was brave, creative, and an avid runner. His fellow firefighters affectionately nicknamed him "Rooster." The Rooster Run is our way of honoring Chip’s adventurous spirit, commitment to community, and the passion he had for his work and life.
The Chip Seaver Memorial Fund at Guildford Technical Community College (GTCC) was established by Chip’s sister Scottie, and other donors, to honor Chip’s respected career and life of service. Proceeds from the race go to the Chip Seaver Memorial Fund at GTCC to support the fire academy and training program. GTCC’s fire training programs help to ensure current and future firefighters receive the knowledge and skills they need to serve their communities and preserve the safety of all, at the highest level.
