Join us this Thanksgiving, Thursday November 26, for our inaugural Silver Creek Turkey Trot 5K!

 
Enjoy running on our cart paths that wind through the tranquility and beautiful mountain views of the Silver Creek golf course. The race may be only 3.1 miles long, but don’t be fooled: The hills with 400 ft gain and loss will make you earn your Thanksgiving feast!

 

In-person participation is limited to 120 people. Wave starts will make sure that social distancing can be maintained. We strongly encourage fast runners to sign up for the first wave, and those who wish to go slower or even walk for the last one. For those who prefer to run their own race, we also offer a virtual option.

 

This event will be professionally chip-timed by GateCity Race Timing!

 

In the spirit of Thanksgiving we are holding this race as a fundraiser for Options of Burke County, a small non-profit advocacy center that provides empowerment services and emergency shelter to Burke County families in crisis. We have decided to keep the entry fee low, yet maximize our donation by not including free swag in the race price. Shirts and socks are available, though, and sales will raise additional funds. Orders must be placed by November 4. Limited sizes may be available at packet pick-up and on race day. Or if you prefer to just donate, you can do that, too!
Event Awards & Categories
Winner medals will be awarded to the fastest in-person male and female runners!
Finisher medals will be awarded to all participants (in-person and virtual). Age group rank medals will be awarded to in-person participants only, to 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the following age groups:
 
Junior: Up to and including 15 years
Adult: 16-35 years
Master: 36-55 years
Senior: 56+ years
Packet Pickup
Packet pick-up will be on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 24 and 25, from 4pm to 6pm at Silver Creek Golf Club. There will be NO race day pick-up or registration.
Cancellations & Refunds
Above all else, we are striving to make this event as safe as it can possibly be for all our participants, volunteers, and staff. If you’re feeling unwell (or uncomfortable participating), we want you to be able to stay home and stay safe without feeling like you’re losing out. In order to make that happen, we are offering flexible options so participants can make responsible decisions based on their health.

 

Here are our options for registered participants who can’t make it to the race:

 

TRANSFER TO ANOTHER PARTICIPANT: You can transfer your registration to another participant for a $10 fee before November 22nd at midnight. After that date, you can switch your registration to the virtual event.

 

SWITCH REGISTRATION FROM IN-PERSON TO VIRTUAL: You can transfer your in-person registration to a virtual registration for free at any point before the race.

 

REFUNDS: Due to the expenses we are incurring this close to the race, we are unfortunately unable to give refunds.

 

CANCELLATION: As we all know the pandemic changes things quickly! We ask that you be flexible and patient as we may have to adjust things for this event up until the event takes place. In the event that the U.S. or NC government declares a new stay-at-home order or places new restrictions on gatherings and we are not able to have the in person event, all ‘in person’ event registrations will automatically be converted to the Virtual event.

Frequently Asked Questions
 
Are spectators allowed? Yes, spectators are welcome. However, due to limited parking, we ask that spectators ride with the runner(s) they will be cheering on. Please refer to the course map (course map coming soon) for designated cheer spots. And remember to keep a 6ft distance and wear your mask!

 

Are dogs allowed? Yes, dogs are allowed on leash, both for spectators and on the course. As always, please bring bags and pick up after your dog.

 

Are strollers allowed on the course? No.

COVID-19 INFO

 

  • Event is capped at 120 total participants, with limited participant wave starts.
  • These wave starts will be determined by the guidance from NC on event gatherings.
  • Online registration will close November 22th at midnight or when we reach the cap of 120 – make sure to sign up before then!
  • We will have designated cheer areas along the course. All spectators must wear a mask and maintain social distance.
  • There will be no walk-up registration or packet pick-up on race day. Please pick up your packets on Tuesday 11/24 or Wednesday 11/25 between 4-6pm.
  • Coordinated social distancing at the start line
  • All staff/volunteers will be required to wear a face-covering during the event.
  • Participants are required to wear a face-covering until the event starts and then put it back on after they are finished running/walking in the event.
  • Unfortunately, with social distancing measures in place, we will not have a finish line ‘experience’ of music, hanging out and waiting on the results or an awards ceremony. After you have completed your race and received your finisher medal, we must sadly ask you to leave the area.
  • Awards will be available to be picked up locally or mailed after the event.
  • You will receive any shirts/socks you ordered when you pick up your packet. There will be limited quantities for sale at packet pick-up, and, if there are any left, on race day.
  • All virtual runners will receive their swag in the mail along with their finisher medal.
  • The online results will be posted the day after the event.
  • Other changes will be added and communicated to participants prior to the event.
