The 16th annual Little River Trail Runs will be a hybrid event: due to concerns related to the ongoing pandemic and to a request from the Orange County Health Department, we will not be able to host our traditional in-person trail race.

Instead, Little River 2021 will be a hybrid event. We will mark the 7k and 10 mile courses, and we invite registrants to run their course anytime during park hours (8am to 5pm), between Saturday, January 9, 2021 and Sunday, January 24, 2021. We'll provide information on how to upload evidence of your run, and we will do random drawings for prizes (from our amazing sponsors, Bull City Running Company, Open Eye Cafe/Carrboro Coffee Roasters, Neal's Deli, Balanced Movement Studios and others) from among all runners who upload their results. We will ship race shirts and prizes after the conclusion of the event window. We also offer the option of ordering additional race shirts, as we know folks have come to love our soft, long-sleeved race shirts.

We wish that we could gather in person to have our usual fun, and we look forward to doing that again in January 2022. In the meantime, this event allows you the opportunity to enjoy the trails at Little River Regional Park; to help us raise funds to support trails at Little River Regional Park (since 2006, when the race started, we've been able to give over $120,000 in donations to the park and to trail-building efforts there); and to celebrate, rather than hibernate, even on short, cold January days! 

Given the COVID-19 pandemic, we will ask runners to adhere to the following practices:

1. Runners must provide their own water, sports drink and nutrition. Please bring what you need with you, and please do not leave trash in the park or along the trails.

2. If you would like to run the race with others, please limit your group size to no more than five runners. During the run, please keep at least the recommended six feet of distance between your group of runners.

3. Should you encounter other runners or trail users as you begin your run, please space out your start to facilitate distancing once on the trails.

4. Please carry a mask with you during your run. When you encounter other users on the trail and you cannot maintain six feet of social distancing (for instance, when passing a walker or runner on the single track), please wear your mask.
