From 40th Year Video

By Bill Van Fossen

In 1985 the Moorestown Rotary Club was looking for a new fundraiser so a group of us started kicking about ideas. We were all tired of trying to sell tickets for events. Ideas were floated for a High School Basketball tournament, a wrestling tournament and ultimately, Scott Coffee came up with the idea of the Moorestown Rotary Run.

We probably had around 200 runners in 1985 and from there it continued to grow to the point that we were drawing over 1,000 runners from all over the Philadelphia region.

In 2006 we tragically lost Scott Coffee to a heart attack and the run was renamed in his honor.

The Scott Coffee Rotary Run continues to thrive, and this year’s event (June 1, 2024) will be our 40th. It has become a mainstay for the Moorestown community for the first Saturday in June. Thousands have participated over the years with many families having three generations completing the race. Kids that were pushed in baby joggers are now pushing their kids.

A testament to the run is that we’ve had several sponsors that have been supporting the run for over 30 years. And that support has helped us raise close to a million dollars to support the good works of Rotary in the Moorestown community with scholarships and local projects, nationally with for things like hurricane relief and internationally for humanitarian projects like safe drinking water in Africa and the eradication of polio throughout the world.

For the past 40 years, the Scott Coffee Rotary Run has been a labor of love for our Rotary Club.
