Why We Walk

One Mile Challenge

Guardian Revival has organized this challenge for the month of October to raise funds and awareness to combat veteran and first responder suicide.
We each will walk one mile a day for 31 days in honor 31 of our guardians who we've lost to suicide.
Participants will carry a prescribed weight during their one-mile walk each day to symbolize the invisible wounds our guardians carry with them on a daily basis.

A Mental Health Epidemic

Mental illness is disproportionately high among our nation’s guardians in comparison to the general population.
With mental health stigmas and other barriers to seeking out help, our guardians often sweep their traumatic experiences under the rug, put their uniform back on and return to duty, continuing to serve our nation both domestically & abroad.

A Cause Worth Fighting For

100% of the proceeds from this challenge will fuel our three core programs at Guardian Revival and help reduce suicide rates among our veteran and first responder populations. This epidemic is real, and we need as much help as possible.

A Silent Epidemic

  • Between 18 and 20 veterans die by suicide each day in the U.S
  • Since 2018, military veteran suicides have increased to nearly twice the rate of nonveterans
  • Veterans between the ages of 18 and 34 are three times more likely to die by suicide than their nonveteran
  • More first responders die by suicide than in the line of duty each year

How Guardian Revival Helps

Guardian Revival is a New York State 501(c)(3) Not-for-Profit organization chartered to provide mental health resources and support at no cost to our active and veteran Guardians, including military and first responders.

Not only does your participation in this challenge mean a tremendous amount to our team here at Guardian Revival, it truly makes a difference in the lives of the guardian community we work with.

Everything we do is developed from a mix of research backed insights and personal experience, and our programs are run by experienced professionals in their field— all offered at no cost to our guardians

Another Summit is a therapeutic outdoor adventure program that provides veterans, first responders, and community members with the foundation for a healthy, purposeful life through structured outdoor activities such as hiking, backpacking, and paddling adventures in the Hudson Valley Region of New York.
Boots & paws provides our guardians in need with service and companion dogs. Ownership of a dog brings purpose and passion into an owner's life and demands elevated responsibilities and mutually beneficial companionship. Dogs also can work and perform tasks to assist individuals in need. Boots & Paws offers both companion and service dogs to meet the needs of a diverse population of Guardians.
Guardian Encore provides our guardians with opportunities to learn, write, play, record, and share music through three avenues: Guardian Jams, Guardian Tracks, and Guardian Retreats. Guardian Encore is supported by the ever-growing body of music therapy research. Over 70 years of research and focused studies make clear the positive impact and relevance music can have on our guardians.
Guardian Revival is a New York State 501(c)(3) Not-for-Profit organization chartered to revive and preserve the mental health & wellbeing of our veterans and first responders by, with, and through music, canines, and nature.
