Retro Run 5k Forced to Go VIRTUAL ONLY

Please be aware that the Retro Run 5k has been forced to become a VIRTUAL ONLY event.  I fought back and did everything in my power to stop this from happening, I am SO SORRY for this sad news.  New York State Covid-19 Compliance Board got involved when members of our community began calling in and complaining about the event being live. I had submitted all the proper paperwork and safety plan materials that were required and all were APPROVED but it apparently was not enough. The City of Binghamton and Broome County were on our side and were more than helpful in coordinating the safety plan for the event, THANK YOU to both for the support. I was up against a force that I could not win against, especially once the complaint calls began.

I will be crediting every person who paid for their registration for the cost of the food and timing services since we will no longer have those items associated with the race.

I will have more news to share on the virtual race  but wanted to share this most important piece of information ASAP.

This WILL NOT be the end of The Retro Run 5k. This course is so amazing and the post-race party will be epic once we are actually able to hold this event.  Stay tuned and thanks for understanding and supporting the race and it's partner charity.

Please email with any and all questions, I will personally respond to each message I receive.

Best of Health,
Brittany Ryan

All proceeds of this race will benefit the rebuild of the OurSpace Playground at Recreation Park .  The playground recently fell victim to arson.  Recreation Park is on Binghamton's West Side, very near to downtown Binghamton where this race is taking place.  The rebuild has already begun but will come at a cost. Our goal is to help reduce the financial burden as much as we can.  We love this playground and we love the kids who want to play there!
This course was originally the "Sun Run 5k" course that was a very popular course during the 1970s and 1980s.  With the Greater Binghamton area having such a rich running community history, what better course to bring back to life?! With new name "The Retro Run 5k" there is plenty of opportunity to design an ultra-groovy, super-retro running outfit, use your imagination and bring some color to this fun-filled event!

We will have Male & Female Age Group prizes (1st, 2nd, 3rd places for 10 year age groups) along with prizes for Male & Female Open and Masters for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

The Retro Run 5k will be the third race in the 2020 Empire Road Race Series schedule.  The Empire Road Race Series is a collection of races, the more you run in the Series, the more FREE swag you earn (swag: tech shirts, sweatshirts, running hats, etc.) at the End of Series Party. Help us keep the growth going, support the running community, increase donations to partner charities, and more by supporting and PARTICIPATING in the Series each year. Register for the Empire Road Race Series for free here: Empire Road Race Series- REGISTER

The race will begin and finish at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena located a 1 Stuart Avenue, Binghamton, NY.  It is a flat, fast 5k that was the same course as the historical Sun Run 5k.  This race will be chipped timed and a copy of the course map can be found here: The Retro Run 5k MapMyRun Course Map .  This course is a USATF Certified 5k Course (Certification Code: NY20009DNB).

Following the 5k Road Race, the Kids Fun Run sponsored by MBY Development will take place.  This is a short distance non-timed event designed to encourage kids to get active and enjoy healthy activities.  The MBY Development Finish Line will have goodie bags waiting for all the finishers!!  Kids and their families are invited to join us at the Broome County Arena following the fun run for food, drinks and an awards ceremony!! Kids must register for the run and sign a waiver before participating in the event.

Pre- and Post-race activities will be hosted outside at Broome County Arena under the mezzanine.  Food and beverages will be provided to all registered participants.  Prizes and awards will follow the race.
