Description

Encompass Recreation is proud to offer a five (5) week running series for all youth ages 2 through high-school.

Each series date takes place on designated Sundays (see flyer)  and offers age/grade appropriate distances for everyone. 

**Youth may run UP divisions, but not down divisions** ex: a 4 year old MAY run the 1/4 mile, but a 1st grader may NOT run the 75 meter dash

**Runners may not switch divisions once the series has started

  • 50 M Dash-Age 2
  • 75 M Dash-Ages 2 + 3
  • *Incredi-Dash: 75 M Dash (adaptive division for exceptional youth)
  • 100 M Dash-Ages up to and including age 5 (if child is in Kindergarten, please register for 1/4 mile)
  • 1/4 Mile- Youth up to and including 1st grade
  • *Super Sprint: 1/4 Mile (adaptive division for exceptional youth)
  • 1/2 Mile- Youth up to and including 3rd grade
  • 3/4 Mile-Youth up to and including 6th Grade
  • Mighty 1 Mile- Youth up to and including 8th Grade
  • Master 1 Mile-Youth up to and including 12th grade

Incredi-Dash + Super Sprints are adaptive race distances for those with higher support needs who may need extra help during the race. These are the only divisions where adults/helpers are allowed on the course. 

NOTE: Exceptional youth are not excluded to only the Incredi-Dash or Super Sprint, they may run with typical peers, in their age-appropriate division, as appropriate.

Each week, runners will accumulate points based on their finish order and at the end of the series, awards will be presented to those with the highest cumulative points per division.

All participants receive a medal on the final week.

Code of Conduct

ENCOMPASS RECREATION CODE OF CONDUCT

Encompass Recreation adheres to a strict participant & parent/guardian code of conduct, driven by our vision, mission and core values.

Unsportsmanlike Conduct: Acts including, but not limited to pushing, shoving, kicking, cheating & verbal abuse will not be tolerated.

The following rules of conduct have been developed:

  • Never try to hurt an opponent.
  • Applaud and respect your opponents.
  • Bullying and verbal/physical abuse of others will not be tolerated.
  • Do not use foul language.
  • Follow the course as marked to ensure participants run the full distance.
  • Win with humility and lose with dignity.
  • Parents and guardians set a good example of sportsmanship and your kids will follow.

Appropriate race distance registration:

The registration and subsequent placement of a child in the correct race is the responsibility of the parent/guardian. Per the guidelines below, participants running in the wrong race are ineligible to receive greater than one participation point for the week. Please register the child in the age/grade level in which the child is enrolled during the five-week season.

No Pacing Policy: Pacing is not permitted. Pacing is defined as parents, guardians, spectators or others running alongside one or more runners in a running event. There are to be no adult parents, guardians, or spectators in the race, on the course, or running alongside the course during the race due to safety reasons.

The program director/volunteer is expected to enforce the code of conduct. They retain the right to remove points from participants whom they feel are in violation of the code of conduct. Encompass Recreation operates under a one strike policy, meaning in instances that do not directly impact race results or scoring, the director will issue a warning to either the participant, or family member, etc. For instances that directly affect race results, coordinators are to remove points, saving one participation point, for those whose unsportsmanlike actions adversely affect the race.

For violations of an egregious nature, the director, with the approval of the board of directors, has the right to remove violators for the rest of the series.
