28th Annual Thermo Fisher Scientific - Grand Island 1/2 Marathon

The 28th Grand Island Half Marathon is Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Beaver Island State Park.  

**** Remember there is NO  race day registration at Beaver Island State Park.  Registration is available online only.

****Runners pickup your bib  on race morning at Beaver Island State Park starting at 6:30AM.  Shirts, medals and other race swag will be available at the finish line. 
NEW this year:
-       race start at 8AM.  There is no time limit to finish your race! Post-race brunch from 10AM - noon.
-       newly designed finisher medal; 19 and under Male and Female winners trophies.
-       entry fee refund for anyone breaking the event records in overall M/F and masters M/F divisions, see record times below.

-       a portion of race proceeds will support the Miracle League of Grand Island and WNY.The Miracle League is designed to serve individuals who cannot be accommodated by established baseball leagues due to the special needs of their disabilities. 

Race Fee: $80 through close of registration for both in-person and virtual entries (plus $3.15 transaction fee at checkout).  Virtual entries will receive their gear via US mail, mailing date TDB once we receive the race shirts from our vendor. $120 for Duo Teams.

There is no race day registration.  NO REFUNDS.  Registrations may be deferred to the next scheduled Grand Island Half Marathon OR 10K until April 15.   You may transfer your registration to another runner at no charge.

Race fee includes:
-        chip timing, water and sports drinks at 6 hydration stations along the course 
-        post race brunch and beverages from 10AM - Noon,
-        a long sleeve, 1/4 zip pullover in men's and women's sizes.  ALL SIZES ARE STILL AVAILABLE! Register now.

Packet Pick-up at Beaver Island State Park on race day only.  Runners should pick up their bib starting at 7AM on race day. Shirts may be picked up before and after the race. 

Race Day Details and Amenities:
Saturday, May 7, 2022 - 8:00AM start at Beaver Island State Park, Grand Island,
NY (between Buffalo and Niagara Falls). The race starts and finishes in the main parking lot.

Runners will pickup their bib number on race morning at Beaver Island State Park. Shirts, medals and other race swag will be available at the finish line. 

The course is flat, out and back, along the scenic Niagara River.
More than 85% of the course is closed to traffic. There is no time limit to complete the course.

6 hydration stations along the course. Race Volunteers will place cups of water and Gatorade on tables for runners to pick up. Cups will not be handed to runners in order to reduce contact.  Runners may also carry their own water bottles to refill along the course.

6 portable toilet stations along the course plus additional in the start/finish area.

Duo Division

A "Duo Team" is  composed of one runner pushing one person with a permanent disability in a racing wheelchair. 

Duo Team Division rules:
- Both entrants must sign the race waiver
- One runner is allowed to push the other team member the entire race distance
- The runner must be tethered to the chair and the rider safely secured
- The duo runner will appear in the overall and age group results based on the team's finishing time.  The duo rider finish time will be listed in the "Duo" division based on the team's finishing time. 
- Duo Team registration is available for the in-person event only

Friends/Family/Company Teams

Form your team with any combination of in-person or virtual entries and then run, walk or just support your team members. Team size is unlimited.

Teams of 4 or more are entitled to have their shirts customized with their team name for an additional $35 set up charge. FREE customization for Grand Island Chamber of Commerce members.  Grand Island Chamber  members also receive priority tent space at the start/finish area for their team. (You supply the 10x10 pop-up tent)

Our intention is to give runners a “touch free” safe event in compliance with evolving COVID-19 restrictions.  Guidelines for large gatherings continue to change and could be very different on race day. The Grand Island Half Marathon will continue to promote a safe event as we did in 2020 and '21.  This includes encouraging mask wearing, distancing, modified water stations, sanitizing surfaces and a safe food plan. In addition the event is 100% outdoors.  As protocols change, we will respond accordingly. 

The Grand Island Half Marathon will be abiding by the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) recommendations for the prevention of the spread of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) and other communicable diseases.  As such, masking  and mass gathering guidelines will be adopted by the event as these guidelines change.
