Unpack All the Program Perks!

YOUR IDEAL TRAINING PROGRAM
Get ready! Our training programs will start on Wednesday, July 16, with a kickoff session (more details on that below). While each group will focus on different goal races, starting as one unified team builds a powerful community of running and walking friends training side-by-side!

Our primary goal is for you to complete the training program successfully without any injuries. Our approach focuses on time-based training rather than mileage-based training. Why? Because this helps you train based on your rate of perceived effort, allowing you to focus on the effort of a run (easy, hard, etc.) without worrying about hitting a specific mileage goal for each run.

To help with accountability and to keep you on track, we'll meet twice a week for group runs (on Wednesdays and Saturdays) and once a week for in-person strength training.

  • Wednesday evening group runs at 6:00 p.m. at Fleet Feet Poughkeepsie
  • Thursday evening group strength session at 6:30 p.m. at Gold's Gym LaGrange (no gym membership required)
  • Saturday morning group run at 8:00 a.m. at the Morgan Lake Trailhead on the Dutchess Rail Trail*

*Our Saturday morning sessions will start at 8:00 a.m., but as we get into warmer months, they may be pushed earlier to beat the heat if necessary.

WHICH PROGRAM IS RIGHT FOR ME?
The 5K/10K programs are great for runners and walkers of all abilities, including beginners or those looking to begin running.

As a general guideline, by the half marathon program's start, you should be able to run a consecutive 40-50 minutes and ideally have a weekly base of ~15 or more miles. This is not a zero-to-half marathon program!

KICKOFF SESSION
Before each training program begins, we host a kickoff session to review the training plan, go over strength training details, and provide tips for a successful and injury-free training cycle. We'll be hosting this meeting in the evening on Wednesday, July 16, at Fleet Feet Poughkeepsie. This session is for registered participants only, not for those considering joining the training program. Registered participants should make every effort to attend this essential kickoff meeting. Those who join this session consistently demonstrate higher rates of success in the program. More details about this meeting will be emailed to registered participants.

You'll receive your 5K, 10K, or half marathon training program by Tuesday, July 15, so you can come to the kickoff session with any questions.

Got Q's? We Have A's!

Will I be too slow?
This is our most frequently asked question, and the answer is a resounding no! Our groups include runners of all paces, from sub-10-minute to 15 - 16 minute paces.  Many, if not most, of our runners fall in the 11 - 12 minute pace range.

How do I know if I’m ready?
The 5K/10K programs are great for runners and walkers of all abilities, including beginners or those looking to begin running. For the half marathon training program, here are a few things to consider:
1. You should be able to ‘comfortably’ run for a consecutive 40-50 minutes, regardless of pace.
2. Training for a half marathon is a time commitment, and first and foremost, you should make sure that you have the time to dedicate to training 4 - 5 times per week.
3. If you have consistently experienced injuries during training cycles for shorter distances, then you may want to consider repeating that distance to train injury-free before proceeding to a longer distance.

What if I can’t make it to the group runs?
That’s ok! Come to as many as you can, but don’t let the group's schedule deter you from joining the program. Our training groups are typically around 20 - 30 people, and it would be impossible to find a single day and time that works for everyone. Don’t think that you won't get value out of the program if you can’t make it to every session. We've had runners in the past who didn’t make it to any group sessions but still found great value in the coaching/group dynamic, had a great experience, and successfully completed the race.

The primary consideration for joining should be whether you are willing to invest the time in training.

What if I want to train with the group but am doing a different race?
This is totally fine! But you will be responsible for modifying your training plan to meet your specific needs. If your schedule is ahead of the group’s, we ask that you refrain from encouraging other runners to run longer distances than those prescribed in their training plan.

Will the group runs happen in bad weather?
Generally speaking, yes. Except for unsafe conditions such as thunder and lightning. We will always keep the group posted about the status of our group runs.

Is individualized coaching available?
While we do our best to respond to and accommodate everyone's individual needs, please keep in mind that this is a group training. We do not currently offer one-on-one training.

What if I change my mind about training? Can I get a refund?
Unfortunately, once the training program is shared with participants, we are not able to offer refunds on the program. If you have a unique circumstance that prohibits you from completing the program, we can provide you with a spot in a future training program. Any refunds before the training program is shared would not include any applicable Run Signup fees.
