BIG RUN SOLD OUT!
For the second year in a row, our Big Run is officially SOLD OUT! We're so excited to celebrate Global Running Day with all 515 of you!
For those registered, all the event information you need (bib pickup times, race switches, parking information, course notes, bathrooms, water stops, etc.) is in the Athlete Guide. The FAQ section below also has helpful information.
If you didn't get to register in time, we know it's a bummer, and we genuinely appreciate your understanding. Why do races cap registration? Here are just some of the reasons:
Safety first! Our #1 priority is making sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience on the course!
Town permits & parking! Sometimes, towns have permitting limits on how many runners can be out there, and parking logistics play a big role.
Race goodies! To make sure everyone gets their well-deserved shirts and medals, we have to order them way in advance, which means setting a cap.
It's amazing to see our local running community thriving and coming together for such a special day. Thank you for your incredible support, and we can't wait to see those registered at the starting line!
FAQs
Yes! If you want to switch distances between the 10K and 5K, please email info@fleetfeetpoughkeepsie.com before Wednesday, 6/3, at 4:00 p.m. (preferred method) or by stopping by the same-day packet pick-up tent before 6:15 p.m. We must be notified of any event switches before the races begin. If you email us after 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, we will not see it in time to make the switch before the races.
We cannot accept changes after 6:15 p.m. on race day (Wednesday, 6/3).
Your actions affect the whole race! Changing distances mid-event (e.g., dropping from the 10K to the 5K) compromises the integrity of the overall results and affects the accuracy of age-group results. To keep things fair and fun, once the race has started, stick to your registered race distance. If, for any unforeseen reason, you need to switch distances mid-event, please stop by the results booth as soon as you cross the finish line so we can adjust the results and avoid handing out age-group prizes to the wrong people.
If you registered and can no longer make it, you may transfer your bib. All transfers must be done through Run Signup. Transfers outside of Run Signup are not permitted for this race, meaning that you cannot simply give a bib that is assigned to you to another runner. You must follow the transfer instructions below.
If you are transferring your bib, you will need to know the email address and full name of the person you’re transferring it to. To do so, go into your Run Signup profile, select this race, and then click on “manage registration”. From there, you can opt to transfer your bib. The person you transfer your bib to will get an email with a link to register and pay the race registration fee. You will be refunded automatically from Run Signup only AFTER the other person has registered through the transfer link in their email. There is a $5 fee to transfer your registration.
If you are transferring your bib, make sure the person receiving it knows to provide us with your name at bib pickup. Bib labels have already been printed and will be under the name of the person who originally registered, even though the timing results will accurately reflect their information.
No, there is no waitlist for this race.
We can accommodate strollers, but dogs are not allowed at this event. Anyone participating with a stroller will start at the back to allow the trail congestion to clear.
This is a simple out-and-back course that goes south on the Rail Trail.
We run this town, rain or shine. If you've ever done The Big Run before, you know that there's usually, at the very least, a chance of thunderstorms. We don't ever change our events based on a forecast. If needed, we may delay the start time in real time if conditions are too dangerous to run (think Thor-level thunder and lightning).
There is no minimum age for participation. The runs take place entirely on the Dutchess Rail Trail, which is safe for participants of all ages and abilities. We ask that parents use their judgment when registering minors to ensure they understand the instructions for turning around in the designated space and can complete the distance without assistance. The 10K does cross a road that is open to traffic.
All runners or walkers for the 5K and 10K must complete the distance by 8:00 p.m. Walkers are welcome as long as they can complete the selected distance before 8:00 p.m. Please select your distance accordingly, taking the event end time into account.
One Community. One Run.
Mark your calendars for June 3rd! Global Running Day isn't just a date on the calendar—it’s our favorite reason to bring the whole community together. The Big Run returns to the Dutchess Rail Trail for another year of miles, smiles, and memories.
We’re keeping the "fast and flat" course you crave but doubling down on the "After-Party." Expect more than just a finish line—we’re talking a full-blown festival with local eats, music, photo-op stations to flex those medals, and a few new surprises we’re keeping under wraps.
6:30 PM: 10K start – Let’s go, long-distance crew!
6:45 PM: 5K start – Squad up and hit the trail!
Everything is chip-timed and USATF-certified, so you get the professional race feel with the neighborhood block party soul.
