Parking Information

Image

It’s imperative that participants follow these parking instructions to maintain the feasibility of holding The Big Run at this location. Event participants must use the entrance BEHIND Gold’s Gym (at the traffic light), not the one in front of the gym, to get to our designated parking area. Please refer to the image on the left for guidance.

Given the size of this year’s event, CARPOOLING IS STRONGLY SUGGESTED.

Parking volunteers, wearing reflective vests, will help direct you to a spot. Please do not park in a spot unless you have been directed by one of our parking volunteers. Please park responsibly and ensure that you occupy only one parking space. Our parking volunteers will direct you to alternate parking if our designated parking areas fill.

Please do not attempt to enter Gold’s Gym for any reason; this event takes place outdoors.

Bib Information

Bib Pickup
Please pay close attention to the pickup windows and locations outlined below.

  • Sunday, 5/31, at Fleet Feet Poughkeepsie: 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
  • Monday, 6/1, at Fleet Feet Poughkeepsie: 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

  • Tuesday, 6/2, at Fleet Feet Poughkeepsie: 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

  • Wednesday, 6/3, at Gold’s Gym Rail Trail Entrance: 5:00 p.m. - 6:15 p.m.*

Please note that these times are firm; please don’t ask to pick up outside these pickup windows.

All packets will be available at Fleet Feet Poughkeepsie during the designated times, regardless of when you registered or if you had a bib transferred to you. You can pick up packets for friends or family members by providing us with their names (it helps if you have the correct name they used when registering). We do not require registration confirmation, nor do you need to call us in advance to check if a particular participant’s bib is available.

*IMPORTANT
Bib pickup, including switching race distances, will end promptly at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, 6/3. Parking congestion is expected; we recommend allowing yourself more time than you think you will need.

If you are relying on bib pickup at Gold’s Gym on Wednesday before the race, we strongly suggest arriving no later than 5:30 p.m., as traffic and parking congestion are expected (carpooling will really help to alleviate this). Once again, bib pickup will end promptly at 6:15 p.m. If you are unable to arrive at Gold’s Gym by 5:30 p.m., we STRONGLY advise that you pick up your bib at Fleet Feet Poughkeepsie during the times listed above. If you pick up your bib before Wednesday, plan to arrive at Gold’s gym no later than 6:00 p.m. to allow enough time for parking, given the expected congestion.

If you registered for the race but do not have your bib before 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, you can run the race but will not receive an official finish time, appear in the finisher’s results, or be eligible for age group awards. We understand this may be a frustrating experience, but please don’t take your frustrations out on our team or our volunteers!

Bib Transfers/Race Switches
If you registered and can no longer make it, you may transfer your bib. All transfers must be done through Run Signup. Transfers outside of Run Signup are not permitted for this race, meaning that you cannot simply give a bib that is assigned to you to another runner. You must follow the transfer instructions below.

If you are transferring your bib, you will need to know the email address and full name of the person you’re transferring it to. To do so, go into your Run Signup profile, select this race, and then click on “manage registration”. From there, you can opt to transfer your bib. The person you transfer your bib to will get an email with a link to register and pay the race registration fee. You will be refunded automatically from Run Signup only AFTER the other person has registered through the transfer link in their email. There is a $5 fee to transfer your registration.

Do not fall for scams of people asking for payment for entries or “tickets” via Facebook or any other platform.

If you are transferring your bib, make sure the person receiving it knows to provide us with your name at bib pickup. Bib labels have already been printed and will be under the name of the person who originally registered, even though the timing results will accurately reflect their information.

If you want to change your race distance, you can do so by responding to this email before Wednesday, 6/3, at 4:00 p.m. (the preferred method) or stopping by the same-day packet pick-up table before 6:15 p.m. If you email us after 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, we will not see it in time to make the switch before the races.

NEW: Food Ticket on Bib
In the hope of giving as many participants as possible a chance to enjoy the catered food we provide post-event, your bib will include a tearaway food ticket. This ticket must be turned in at the food area, and you will need to be wearing your bib to enter. It is one ticket per participant, and our team will serve the food.

The food and drinks we have on-site are for post-race enjoyment for registered participants. Please bring your own water and snacks for pre-race fueling.

Bib Reminders

  • If you pick up multiple bibs, each will have a name on it. Please ensure that everyone receives their correct bib number.

  • Please ensure that the race distance (5K or 10K), age, and gender are correct on the back of your bib before the race starts, as these affect age-group results.

  • If you pick up your bib in advance, please remember to bring it with you on Wednesday!

  • Bibs must be visible at all times during the event, including when getting food and drinks at the post-race party.

Course Notes

The 5K & 10K courses are USATF certified and are an out-and-back route heading South from Gold’s Gym.

Half of the trail will be coned off near the start, and we must keep that lane open for others using the trail who aren’t participating in the race. We ask that everyone please line up in the grass area next to the trail while waiting for the race to begin. Please DO NOT stand in large groups blocking the trail. There will be volunteers to direct you.

When running on the trail, please stay on the RIGHT-HAND SIDE unless you are passing other runners. Driving rules apply here; the left lane is the passing lane! There are no road crossings for the 5K, but the 10K crosses Diddell Road; use extreme caution when crossing.

Strollers are welcome at the event; however, due to the trail's width and the number of runners we expect, we ask that you start in a spot that makes sense for your anticipated pace and stay to the right unless passing. Please use extreme caution when passing or approaching other runners or walkers. This is an additional reminder that we cannot accommodate dogs at this event, as the leashes provide a trip hazard on the narrow trail with so many participants. If you show up with a dog, you will be turned away.

The 5K and 10K will have a turnaround volunteer and a cone to indicate the turnaround point. Please pay attention so that you don’t miss the turnaround.

Mile markers along the course will be painted on the trail (right-hand side).

All runners and walkers must complete their event by 8:00 p.m.

Water Stops

There will be two (2) electrolyte/water stations for the 10K and one (1) station for the 5K. The first station is a little past mile 1, just before Maloney Road, while the second is around mile 2.5 (10K only), just after Diddell Road. Since the course is an out-and-back, runners will have the opportunity to hit each station twice. We will also have water at the finish line.

Timing / Age Group Awards

Your bib must be pinned to the front outermost layer of clothing. Wearing an outer layer over your bib or pinning it to your back can prevent the chip from reading correctly.

Please do not switch race distances without notifying a member of our team, as this causes chaos with age-group awards, regardless of pace. If, for any reason, you do not complete your registered race distance as intended, please stop by the timing booth immediately after finishing your race or notify a Fleet Feet team member.

Once done, participants will receive a text message with their official time. There will be screens by the Fleet Feet tent for participants to check if they placed in the top 3 overall (male, female, non-binary) or in their age group. Please check these screens for this information. DO NOT ask the staff at the Fleet Feet tent about your placement. If you did place, you’ll be eligible for a handmade award. We will hold a brief awards ceremony at 8:00 p.m. If you placed and are unable to stay for the awards ceremony, your award can be picked up at Fleet Feet Poughkeepsie starting at 12:00 noon on Thursday, 6/4.

Results will be available here after the race. Please note that prior-year results are also available, so ensure you are on the correct year.

Bathrooms

There will be five (5) porta-potties near the trail for your use before and after the race. Please do not attempt to enter Gold’s Gym to use its facilities.

Weather

This event will take place rain or shine, and we will only delay the start time at the last minute if conditions are dangerous, such as thunder and lightning. We do not change our events based on forecasts.

Post Race Activities

Get ready to celebrate your awesome achievement with a BIG after-party! We're talking good vibes, great tunes, and delicious eats. Your bib must be visible to get food and drinks.

DJ Jean will be spinning the tracks, keeping the energy high, and we'll have catered food and yummy treats to refuel you. Plus, capture all your post-race glory at our super fun photo booth!

We're thrilled to have some fantastic partners joining the celebration: Brooks (the national sponsor of The Big Run!), Superfeet, Oofos, LevelUp, and Sloop Brewing Company.

Don't wander off too early! We'll announce raffle winners at 8:10 p.m. Just remember, you've gotta be there to claim your prize!

Can't Attend?

If you cannot make it to the event, there is no need to let us know. Any extra shirts will be available at Fleet Feet Poughkeepsie (shirt sizes first come, first served at that point) through Wednesday, 6/10. We will not be able to hold on to shirts past this date.
