Description
This program is designed to help walkers, walk-runners, and runners maintain training when they don't have a specific race in mind or if they want to get really good at doing a specific distance: 5K, 5-Mile, or 10K. There is no obligation to register for any race, and if you choose to register for one, that is a payment to the race.
The program targets specific goals:
- maintaining a base distance for weekend workouts
- getting really good at a specific distance
- helping those who want to remove walk breaks (optional)
The Maintaining Training program does not offer a weekly ramp up in mileage. Instead, its focus is maintaining a current training distance level. Whatever distance you choose is the one you'll be practicing every long workout for the duration of the session you choose, generally six weeks. Each program features speed work, hills, and a weekend workout of your specified distance (5K, 5-Mile, and or 10K). Participants will be provided a calendar and a private training group on Facebook.
When:
Tuesdays and Thursdays either at 8 a.m. for morning sessions or 6 p.m. for traditional sessions.
Saturdays, 8 a.m. for both sessions
Where:
Most workouts are at Greece Canal Park, Millennium Lodge, at 241 Elmgrove Rd., Rochester, NY 14626 until too dark for the park (it closes at dusk).
What:
Tuesdays are hill workouts. Thursdays are speed workouts. Saturdays are long distance workouts.

Meet the Instructor
Obatron Productions' programs for Obatron Fitness are designed and led by Vickey A. Beaver. She got her Group Exercise Instruction certification from Athletics and Fitness Association of America and her Running Coach Certification from Road Runners of America, so you are getting someone who is serious about helping others. Having been an avid walker for years, she got out of the habit of exercising altogether and didn't find her way back to it until mid-2010. Starting with just a couple of miles around a local mall by herself, a year later, she was meeting different friends there and elsewhere five days a week at varying speeds and distances, as they joined her on her training journey to walk the December 2011 Honolulu Marathon. One thing led to another and she has embraced exercise again for very different reasons than when she was first active. Now she enjoys it for how it makes her feel, the community she's become part of, and the short- and long-term health benefits she sees in her health exams and assessments.
Coach Vickey believes training ought to be focused and fun! She prides herself on getting to know her clients, whether via one-on-one, personal coaching or in a group setting. She keeps her classes small to ensure everyone gets personalized attention.
