Description

Welcome to the 30th Annual Home Run for the Homeless!

Our mission is to provide interim housing, food, training and support services for those families who are earnestly seeking to improve their lives and living conditions. Our commitment is to do this without government funding or paid staff, but by uniting our community in the true spirit of service. Gennesaret does not promote any religious organization or practices; however, it was founded on Christian principles. Encompassing our mission is our unbending goal to treat those whom we serve with respect to enable them to retain their dignity in difficult and stressful times.

All proceeds go directly to serving those in dire financial straits through our Family Nutritional Center and our family housing apartments. On behalf of those who are challenged in these tough times, we thank you for your support of our endeavors.

We look forward to the day we can all run together on Thanksgiving morning.  Until then, we wish a happy and safe Thanksgiving!

CELEBRATE THANKSGIVING BY HELPING OTHERS

As our only fundraiser for the entire year, we sincerely appreciate your donation. 100% of your donation is used to provide meals to those in need.   We provide meals to those in need at an extremely low cost of $0.50 meal.

HELP FEED A PERSON IN NEED

  • $5 – provides 10 meals

  • $20- provides 40 meals

  • $60 – provides 120 meals

  • $240 – provides 480 meals

  • $720 – provides 1440 meals

URGENT PLEA

Dear supporter of the “Home Run for the Homeless”,

This is the 30th year of the annual Gennesaret “Home Run for the Homeless” – WOW! – 30 years is such a landmark achievement of every one of you who have participated over these past 30 years.

Your participation in the “Home Run for the Homeless” has truly been a “Home Run” for the poor and homeless of the greater Akron area.  Your participation in this race over the past 30 years has meant providing nearly 1 million meals to the hungry, clothing to those in need, and housing to countless others.  The “Home Run for the Homeless” is more than a race that is challenging and a lot of fun, it is a means for making a huge positive impact in the world by helping those of our fellow citizens that find themselves in need.  It is doing something beautiful for God and our neighbors, which is a tremendous example of what our world so desperately needs.

Your tremendous support last year enabled us to continue our support for the poor even during the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.  This continued support was a blessing to those we serve and our all-volunteer staff of 300 that gives of their time freely to serve.
As we continue to navigate through the challenges of Covid, we could use your support again this year more than ever.

This race is the only fund-raiser we do all year, and it keeps our doors open all year long enabling our volunteers to serve those in need within our community.
In addition to our normal operational costs this year, we have the extra expense of having to rehab one of our buildings.  If you have the means and can provide an extra donation for building rehab, it would be greatly appreciated.

This year we are excited that we can move back to an in-person event which brings us back closer to some degree of normalcy. But unfortunately, we will still not be back to the way things had been in the past, as we will not be having an award ceremony, door prize event, or food distribution.

In an abundance of caution, we believe that not having a large gathering of people indoors is prudent given that covid is still with us.  So, the race will be in-person, and participants will receive a medal and water at the finish line, but there will not be a ceremony and gathering following the race this year.  Results will be posted shortly after the race, and we will contact the overall and age group finishers sometime after the race to provide them with their awards. Thanks for supporting this accommodation to help keep us all safe as we navigate through these challenging times.

If you can support us this year, please do so either virtually or in-person and help us continue serving the poorest of the poor in the Greater Akron area. God bless you and your loved ones and thank you.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Bob and Mary Dirgo
