Description
Join the Joe Warfield Memorial Foundation as we celebrate the life of one of Oklahoma City's favorite runners.
The Joltin' Joe 5k is family-friend, community event intended to raise awareness about distracted driving and create a movement for change. The National Safety Council reports that on a typical day, more than 700 people are injured in distracted driving crashes. Over the course of a year, 42,000 indivudals are killed on American streets. It doesn't have to be this way! Talking on a cell phone – even hands-free – or texting or programming an in-vehicle infotainment system diverts your attention away from driving. Keeping EVERYONE on the road safe is our goal. Your participation and support allows us to invest in initiatives and education to help eliminate these dangers and save lives.
Thank you for running with us to make a difference just like Joe would!

ABOUT THE COURSE
The 5K RUN is a timed event on a USATF certified course consisting of simply out and back on the beautiful OKC river trails. The route is flat, fast, and suitable for runners and walkers of all abilities. Runners and Walkers will start near the Wheeler Ferris Wheel, and run 1.55 miles out, and then turn around come back to the finish. The course will be clearly marked, with a safety cone and sign that says TURN AROUND and volunteers helping to guide participants, so you don't end up in western Oklahoma. The 5k is an officially sanctioned event with USATF. USATF provides General Liability insurance for the race and third parties, including the City of Oklahoma City. The 1 Mile Fun Run (or Walk!) is an untimed stroll from the Ferris Wheel to a half mile at which point participants will turn around and come back to the finish. The 1 mile will go a different direction on the course, so as not to get confused with the 5k-ers. The 1 Mile will be clearly marked as well with a safety cone and sign to say Turn Around and volunteers to help guide participants.

FINISHER AND AGE GROUP AWARDS
All participants (Student 5k, Adult 5k, 1 Mile Fun Run, and Virtual 5k) will receive a Race Bib, Custom Finisher Medal with spinning Ferris Wheel, and other swag. Everyone except the virtual 5k will ALSO receive a FREE ticket to ride the Ferris Wheel (the virtual 5k won't be there in person, so they don't need a ferris wheel ticket).
To lower the cost so more young people can run the race and be part of our movement to end distracted driving, the long sleeve tech shirts are NOT automatically included in the initial race fee this year. However, you can add a shirt for $10.
The Joltin' Joe 5K will also give awards to the overall male and female winners as well as the top 3 male and female finishers in the standard USATF age divisions.
We will give Age Group Awards in the standard USATF age group divisions.
The event will be chip timed and race results will be posted online. Email and text result notifications are available at registration.
All 5K Runners can view and download a custom finisher certificate with their time!
HOW DOES THE VIRTUAL OPTION WORK?
If you can't be there in person but still want to participate, the Virtual 5K option is for you. Run the 5k, (3.1 mile), distance when and where you want in a way that works best for you. We'll mail your packet, bib, and finisher medal to you to arrive the week of the race. You'll also be emailed a link to submit your time to our online virtual results listing. Participants can also share photos celebrating their experience. Don't let crowds or distance keep you from being part of the fun!
