During this time of social distancing and threat of illness, we have decided to hold this race virtually, allowing participants to walk, run, hop, skip, jump, or even ride their bikes wherever they are! This isn't our typical event and these aren't typical times but this does create a unique situation where friends and family from around the world can participate "together" in a common goal.
All funds earned will be used by Salem Harvest to gather fresh produce from area farms and backyards that would go to waste and make it available for hungry families in the Willamette Valley. The food we harvest would be left in the fields to rot unless we save it by working quickly. These fruits and vegetables are perfectly tasty and healthy but not usable by growers. So Salem Harvest and our volunteers Race to the fields to Save the Harvest and get this unused resource into the community.
How’s this going to work?
Those who would like to participate can register here on RunSignUp and will run their chosen distance during the specified dates. Once you run your distance, there will be an opportunity to submit the time that it took you to complete your run. You can also share your run on social media tagging Salem Harvest and using the hashtags #RacetoSavetheHarvest or #SavetheBlueberries. On July 20th, we will hold a raffle drawing on Facebook Live for fun and valuable prizes.
There will be shirts, right?
Of course! We have to have Salem Harvest race shirts, and this year they will be a little different, just like the race. If you register before June 28th, your shirt and other swag will be ready for pick up on July 10th. If you register after June 28th, you will still get a shirt but it won't be printed until July 20th and arrangements will be made to pick it up.
When can I complete my run?
Any time between July 10th and July 20th.
Where can I complete my run?
You can run anywhere you’d like! You can run in Salem, you can run around your town, you can run to a blueberry harvest, you can run on a treadmill. There are no requirements as to where you run this race or what the terrain looks like. Road, trail, track, or some combination of the three. It’s all good! Encourage friends from around the country, heck the world, to participate with you in their corner of the globe.
Our typical Course Map is linked here on this page. If you wish to run this 3k or 5k course you may, but please be responsible and respect the six foot social-distancing protocol and/or respect all directions by the parks department or other local officials. We do not have a permit at any park, so nothing is reserved for this event and you are operating as an individual while you complete this run.
What’s this about a Raffle?
Like every Race to Save the Harvest, we will have raffle prizes up for grabs for the participants. On July 20th at 12:00pm, we will be randomly choosing participants to win fabulous and fun prizes. Also, keep an eye on our Salem Harvest social media pages for a bonus raffle prize just for those who tag us when sharing pictures or videos of their runs.
Thank you to all our awesome sponsors listed to the right. Without their support, this run would not be possible.
