Come join the September 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance and Courtyard of Honor for a 12-hour fundraising event at Memorial Lake State Park in Grantville PA. Runners, walkers, and bicyclists will have the opportunity to see how many laps and miles they can complete during the 12 hour time limit. The run will consist of nice wooded trails along the lake with a small part of the loop being on the road. Bicyclists will enjoy a nice 3.2 mile loop around the lake with a small part of the course utilizing the shoulder PA Route 443 when you leave an reenter the park. The shoulder on PA Route 443 will be coned off for safety.

The September 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance is a nonprofit whose mission is to preserve and perpetuate the memories of those impacted on September 11, 2001 by connecting the New York City National September 11 Memorial and Museum, the Flight 93 National Memorial in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, and the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial in Arlington, Virginia, and other places of resilience and freedom through a 1,300-mile multi-use September 11th National Memorial Trail.   

Courtyard of Honor has a mission to memorialize citizens of Derry Township who have served in the military during periods of armed conflict, first responders who have guarded our safety and security at home, and to honor September 11, 2001 and First Officer of United Flight 175, Michael Horrocks.

Together both organizations are hosting this fundraising event and splitting the proceeds to help further develop the 911 Trail and to build a memorial in Hershey PA for Michael Horrocks. 

There will be food and drinks available throughout the day setup in the large paved parking lot at the end of Upper Road where participants can stop at any point in time during the event. A formal lunch will be served around 1pm for all participants who are interested. During lunch there will be speakers who will share there story about September 11th including Tim Brown who is a retired, decorated 20-year New York City firefighter, a survivor of the 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, a first responder to the 1993 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, and a veteran of the New York Urban Search & Rescue Task Force team that responded to the 1995 terrorist attack on the Alfred P. Murrah federal building in Oklahoma City. Brown lost 93 friends on September 11th, including his two best friends. Brown's last assignment with FDNY was Rescue Co. 3 in the Bronx. He served several years in Mayor Giuliani’s Office of Emergency Management. He spent two years on special detail to the federal government, serving as a special assistant to the Secretary of Health and Human Services during the Anthrax terrorist attacks in 2001-2002 as a founding member of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. He earned top secret government clearance while helping to build command and control into the department. And Russ Nee who was born in Montreal, Canada. He grew up in Randolph Township, NJ, and he owned R.J. Nee Taxi Service in Dover. His love for the great outdoors prompted him to pursue a career in the Morris County Park Commission, where he serves as assistant superintendent for trails, special projects, and emergency operations. He serves as advisor to the Liberty Water Gap Trail and the Lenape Trail Committee,
he oversees the Morris Country Park Commission’s Adopt-A-Trail program, and he chairs the Randolph Township Wildlife Committee. Russell is a member and past president of the Randolph Fire Department, Co. No. 2—Millbrook, and was their former safety officer.
