The Kinzua Viaduct, built in 1882, was the world's longest and tallest railroad viaduct, measuring 2,053 feet long and 301 feet high. In 2003, a tornado partially destroyed the structure. In 2011, the viaduct was reinvented and transformed into the now 624ft long Kinzua Skywalk at Kinzua Bridge State Park. On the skywalk, visitors can take in breathtaking views of the Kinzua Gorge and gaze down at the incredible destruction from the tornado. In addition, the Kinzua Bridge State Park Visitor Center offers historical information and stunning views.

Dear Kinzua Half Marathon & 10k Registrants,
We know many of you have inquired about the status of this event in recent weeks. We hoped to make this announcement sooner, but had to wait for approval from state officials. After Governor Wolf’s May 23rd announcement that McKean County would be entering the “Green Phase,” we continued to work closely with Kinzua Bridge State Park and State Officials to create a COVID-19 mitigation plan to protect the health and safety of all participants, volunteers, spectators, park employees, and event staff members. Yesterday, we received written notification from the Park Manager that our revised plan satisfactorily met all Pennsylvania COVID-19 requirements.
The 2020 Kinzua Half Marathon and 10k will occur on Saturday, July 25th and Sunday, July 26th with SIGNIFICANT CHANGES in order to meet CDC and Pennsylvania State COVID-19 health guidelines for mass gatherings. Please carefully read through the changes below.
The most significant change is that each race must be limited to less than 250 individuals including participants, spectators, volunteers, and staff. This is a CDC guideline and a requirement directly from the state government. Wave starts were not a suitable resolution to the event size limitation according to the state government. In order to comply with this requirement, all half marathon registrants will be refunded their entire entry fee. You can expect to see the credit on your account within 15 business days. HALF MARATHON REGISTRATION WILL REOPEN THIS FRIDAY 6/12 AT 10:00 AM and will be limited to 200 registrants. Registration will be on a first-come, first-serve basis with all registrants having an equal chance to enter. This is expected to sell out quickly. 10k registration will remain open. It will also be limited to 200 registrants and is also expected to sell out quickly. 10k registrants will be able to request a refund if they are uncomfortable participating until Saturday 6/13 at 11:59 PM. For those of you who do not get in, we will also offer Virtual Half Marathon & 10k options that include a shirt, finisher medal, and drawstring bag.
We are aware that some of you originally registered at an introductory rate. In order to meet the Pennsylvania State requirements, we are no longer able to offer this special rate. Registration for the half marathon will reopen at $60. 10k registration will remain $50. These are the original standard registration rates. We are keeping the standard registration rates constant, even though we now have additional costs to meet the requirements of the mitigation plan which include: shipping race packets, COVID-19 signage, and safety items.
Changes required in our COVID-19 mitigation plan include eliminating high contact points, providing PPE, and strongly recommending social distancing whenever possible. To meet these points, we have: eliminated the awards ceremony, packet pickup, and race day registration. We will mail all race packets prior to the event. Included in your race packet will be your chipped bib number, safety pins, event shirt, medal, drawstring bag, and mask. To keep the standard registration rate, we have removed the pint glass as a giveaway and replaced it with a surgical mask. Other changes include:
No deferrals will be provided for 2021. However, any current half marathon registrants that do not get back into the event this year, will receive a special early registration period before the general public can register for 2021 where you will be guaranteed entry to the event if you register.
No refunds will be provided for any reason after Saturday, June 13th at 11:59pm. The only scenario in which a refund will be provided is in the event that COVID-19 unexpectedly worsens and the Pennsylvania government forces the cancellation of the event.
Thank you for your understanding.
