McCloud Nature Park 7/24 - 7/30

The Summer Fun Run Series explores the beautiful McCloud Nature Park on the western edge of Hendricks County.  The 3.549 mile route begins and ends at the parking lot outside the nature center.  Follow the red and blue SFR signs with directional arrows to guide you along the route in addition to the map on this page.  From the nature center, the route crosses the historic truss bridge, up the hill, around the woodlands loop and back across the bridge.  The course continues along the Red Tail Ridge trail to the arboretum.  The final mile of the route make a large loop on Prairie View trail before returning back to the nature center.

Workout of the Week: “McCloud Mayhem”

Warm Up: 10–20-minute run/jog followed by Kinetic/Active Stretching Drills (20 Yards of Skipping, butt kicks, karaoke, high knees, strides)

“McCloud Mayhem” Get out onto the trails & put in some work!

This workout utilizes any & all trails at McCloud Nature Park. You will be doing a pyramid workout simply based on minutes rather than a set distance. It is a perfect way to run the trails and put in some solid effort. The workout will help increase metabolism, strengthen muscles, improve running speed, get you better oxygen efficiency when running, and of course improve your fitness! 

  • Run 2 minutes at an up-tempo pace (slightly out of your comfort zone, but still a pace you can maintain for the entire 2 minutes)1-minute recovery jog
  • 4 minutes up-tempo
  • 2 minutes recovery jog
  • 6 minutes up-tempo
  • 3 minutes recovery jog
  • 4 minutes up tempo
  • 2 minutes recovery jog
  • 2 minutes up-tempo
    *1 pyramid is 18 minutes at up tempo. Feel free to do a second round based on your fitness level.

Cool Down & Static Stretching:

·        10-20 minute jog/walk that should be followed by good stretching!
