Event Schedule
Early Check-in
- Saturday, August 2nd at the ride start on city pier
- 6:00 – 8:00 PM
- Location: Ride start/finish at Port Angeles City Pier (315 N. Lincoln St.)
Ride Day Check-in
- Opens at 6:00 AM
- All cyclists must check in by 9:00 AM to ensure enough time to reach the summit.
Ride Start & Finish
- Start Location: Waterfront Trail near Port Angeles City Pier
- Flexible Start: Once checked in, you can begin anytime, as long as you descend off Hurricane Ridge Road by noon.
- Finish Location: Same as the start. Cyclists begin crossing the finish line around 7:30 AM and continue throughout the morning.
After Party
- 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at Port Angeles City Pier
- Tacos, Beer, and Soft Drinks served starting at 10:00 AM (across the parking lot from the start/finish).
- RSVP Required! Look for an email invitation to confirm your attendance—your response helps us plan!
Bike Corral (Pending Interest)
- 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
- Location: Parking lot across from the Coho Ferry dock
- Secured, attended bike parking available if enough interest is shown.
Road Closure Details
- Hurricane Ridge Road Closed: 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- Lower Hurricane Ridge Road remains open to local traffic only.
- Upper road into Olympic National Park is fully closed to motor vehicles.
Timing Your Ride is Crucial:
- Be off Hurricane Ridge Road by noon.
- Most cyclists should depart the pier between 6:00 – 8:00 AM.
- Very fit cyclists may start later but must leave the summit by 11:30 – 11:45 AM.
- Sweeper riders will turn back any cyclists still heading up at that time.
- If starting before 6:00 AM, be aware of aid station volunteers and emergency vehicles traveling up the mountain.
Release of Liability Waiver – REQUIRED
- You CANNOT check in or receive your ride packet without completing the Release of Liability Waiver (linked in the registration form).
- Each cyclist must sign their own waiver electronically.
- If multiple cyclists are under one registration, each person must complete their own waiver.
- Minors: A parent or guardian must complete the waiver on their behalf.
Parking
Parking Information
Where to Park:
- Heart of the Hills is NOT an official parking location. National Park staff has requested that cyclists do not park there.
- Drop-offs are allowed at Heart of the Hills (Park Entrance), but vehicles must be completely off Hurricane Ridge Road by 7:00 AM.
- If you prefer not to start at Port Angeles City Pier, you may begin elsewhere along the route, but Heart of the Hills is not an option for parking.
Official Parking Locations:
- Free parking lots near the ride start are shaded in orange on the map below.
- Free street parking is available throughout downtown Port Angeles, unless posted otherwise.
- The 3-hour parking limit will NOT be enforced on ride day.

Six Aid Stations are located along the route, plus a drink and snack station at the summit.

Segment Challenge with Strava
For those looking to take on the Strava segment challenge for the climb, here’s the link to the official route.
Important Details:

The segment starts slightly AFTER the official ride start to ensure riders are fully underway.

The segment ends at the apex of the climb, as you enter the parking lot.

Review the route carefully before beginning to avoid confusion.

Tunnels may occasionally interfere with GPS signals, though this is rare.

This challenge is for the ascent only—descending cyclists must follow posted speed limits, as required by Olympic National Park.
