20 years? Here's what happened!
We're excited that not only are we celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Run for A Vet Race but that it also coincides with the 250th Anniversary of our Nation!! So what has happened in RFAVRit's 20 years? So glad you asked.
- We tried our best to keep the event local, affordable, and fun while donating monies to northwoodsian veteran charities. We have located over $140,000 to local Veteran charities or Veteran-related organizations and proje
- We worked hard to incorporate local businesses and area sponsors to form a lovely community bond with the Race.
- We've had over 1,500 people participate in 20 years. We've had 575 people who have participated in 2 year or more races.
- We have two people who have particpated 18 years! Congratulations!
- Our first year (2007), we thought (if lucky) we'd get 50 people in the race and we got 96! By 2025, we had 226 participants. We have stay pretty consistent between 160-180 participants each year, with some years exceeding expectations.
- We have kept track of runners or walkers per year and the time for the 5K runners. If you want a record of your time/year, contact us. We'll send you a summary!
- The entry costs have remained nearly the same.
- In the first few years, race notification and registration was done by word of mouth, paper and mail. Things have changed for sure! We eased pressure on ourselves by going to chip timing in 2013--a total game changer for the crew--and in 2019 we switched to electronic registration.
- Our volunteers, local color guard, and the Mercer ambulance have been on scene since year 1 and have helped make the race safe and successful. Thank you!
