Race History
The Run With Endurance 5K with Deacon's Mile was created in 2014 to coincide with the 50th Anniversary celebrations of the opening of Divine Saviour Church's current facilities during its 2014 Homecoming Weekend. With 130 registered participants, the inaugural race was successful in drawing together people from the church parish, York, and the surrounding communities of Rock Hill, Clover, Lake Wylie, Fort Mill, Sharon, Hickory Grove, McConnells, and even from as far away as Columbia, to celebrate friends, family, fun, fitness, and a little friendly competition! We were blessed that morning when the rains from the night before ended around 5:30am and allowed for perfect race morning running weather! The energy that morning was palpable and will not soon be forgotten by anyone in attendance. Smiles all around!
The race excitement continued in 2015 and saw the successful addition of a NEW Virtual Race option, with participants who could not be with us on race day, but wanted to support us anyway and run their own 5K in their own town!
With over 140 pre-registered participants and more than 37 local business supporters, our greatly anticipated 2015 race was reluctantly and unfortunately canceled early on race morning due to Hurricane Joquain coming through our area that morning. It was an extrememly difficult decision made by the race committee in conjunctin with the local police department, keeping the safety of our participants our most important mission.
We came running back in 2016 with an updated race logo, a new FINISH LINE arch, and over 120 registered participants! In addtition to our usual St. Vincent de Paul support, RWE also partnered with the RideAbility Therapeutic Riding Center and was joyfully able to donate over $1000 to the therapeutic equestrian center to be used for needed equipment and program costs.
2014 race proceeds benefitted the Friends of the Oratory and St. Vincent de Paul, while 2015 proceeds were donated to P.A.T.H. and Tender Hearts ministries, local charities in York, SC, and to St. Vincent de Paul.
2017 brings a new year, new excitement, and new adventures! We look forward to sharing them with you along the way to Race Day!
