Description
Paddle: 4 Miles*
Bike (road): 16 Miles*
Run (road): 3 Miles*
Come celebrate outdoor life and being on the water by shaking things up at The Jewel Tri! This isn't your typical triathlon. Nope, no swimming needed...unless you fall off your paddle vessel. This is a unique paddle, bike and run event! Choose to do all three legs solo, or as a 2- or 3-person relay team, or as a tandem team (both athletes finish together). Bring your kayak, surfski, SUP, prone paddleboard, OC-1, OC-2, tandem kayak, traditional canoe or blow-up unicorn! If you can paddle it for four miles with one blade, two blades or your hands within 1.5 hours, bring it! Grab a friend, family member, or two or three and meet us at Dreher Island State Park on Saturday, September 17 for this multi-sport event on the “Jewel of South Carolina.” Proceeds go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of Patti Lowden — a triathlete, paddler and dear friend who passed away last year of leukemia. You are sure to have a great time with friends and family and experience the camaraderie we need after the last couple of years!

COURSES:
On the registration page, click on the "course maps" tab and review the paddle, bike and run courses carefully.
*TRANSITION AREA:
•This is a fenced-in area where you will rack your bike and your gear is located under your bike (bike shoes, helmet, running shoes, fluids, etc.). We ask that you do not bring large coolers into the transition area. All items must fit underneath your bike. If it helps, you may have a small bucket (e.g., one of those 7-gallon paint buckets) under your bike to contain all of your gear.
•For relay team members, the next athlete must be waiting in the transition area at your racked bike. This is where you will remove your neoprene ankle strap and pass it onto the next member of your team.
•Chip and neoprene ankle strap provided by SetUp Events on morning of event from 6:15-7:30am.
•Only immediate athletes allowed in transition from 7:30a.m. until the last athlete finishes.
VESSEL AREA:
As you exit the water at the boat ramp or at water's edge of the grassy area, there will be teams of volunteers to carefully and respectfully help carry and place your vessel on the grassy area for later pick-up. If it's a sunny day, and you have a dark-colored carbon paddle craft, you may want to arrange for a friend or family member to cover it up with a light-colored cloth or cover to protect it from the heat. A friend or family member is allowed to pick up your vessel for you while you're out on the bike and run courses only if they know your bib number to make sure they're picking up the correct vessel as some boats and boards look similar.
ANKLE STRAP/TIMING CHIP:
All solo participants, paddle person for a relay team, and one of the tandem participants will be provided ONE neoprene ankle strap on the morning of the event at packet pickup. Wear your timing chip on your ankle. Each relay team member must pass this on to their next team member IN THE TRANSITION AREA ONLY. For the tandem teams, both of you must finish each course together but only one needs to be wearing the timing chip. Volunteers at the finish line will help the runners remove and collect this ankle strap/timing chip.
BIB NUMBERS AND BODY MARKING:
EVERYONE should get body marked (solo, tandem and relay). Paddlers will be body marked only. Cyclists will have a helmet number in addition to body marking. Runners will wear a regular bib number in the front (they will also be body marked). Look for people with big, fat markers between the transition area and the shelter to get body marked.
