Description
There have been several incidences on Summerville's Sawmill Branch Trail over the years, making women feel like victims. After myself being one of these women, and hearing countless stories of others, a petition was formed to make Sawmill Branch Trail safer. After quickly gaining 3000 signatures, and being featured on News 4, the Town of Summerville and I (Camille Soltani Icely) am so excited to be hosting this fun COLOR 5k walk/run on the weekend of Women's Empowerment day.
This 5k is for everyone, not only women- but men who support women's rights to feel safe and empowered! I've heard many stories from women are afraid to use this trail, and I hope this 5k helps to empower each women to do what they love without feeling afraid!
The date is Saturday, March 6th at 9am - Hutchinson Square.
When you arrive, you will check in and receive sunglasses to wear for eye protection on the course.
**If you registered BEFORE Feb. 14th, then you will have already picked up your shirt the weekend prior. Registrations AFTER February will not be able to receive shirts, so please wear a plain white T to the event.
This 5k is for any fitness level, as you can run or walk the 5k. We will start in Hutchinson Square and make our way to the Sawmill Trail. Police will have road blocks to ensure our safety as we run/walk. When you get to the trail, there will be three color stations ready to blast you with color!
Race entry fee is $25, and all funds raised will go to make safety improvements to our beautiful trail! Definitely sign up with friends for this one!
Food trucks will be set up and ready for you to enjoy when you finish the 5k back in Hutchinson Square!
For those who registered BEFORE Feb. 14th, please pick up your tshirts at the Public Works Art Center on Feb. 27th, 10-3pm.
