Event Questions

I’d love to come! Where and when?

Seattle Kraken 5K will be hybrid. Choose to join us in person at Greenlake Park in Seattle, WA on October 5th, or join virtually from anywhere.

Where should I park?

There are limited parking lots within Greenlake Park, or there is street parking. Please allow enough time to find a parking spot. Consider carpooling, taking public transit, biking, walking, or getting dropped off.

  • There is a park and ride at the corner of 65th Ave NE and NE Ravenna Blvd, just a short walk to the start.
  • The number 20 bus takes 10 minutes from Northgate, where there is plenty of parking. The first bus leaves Northgate at 6:11am. The latest bus you can take in order to get to Greenlake on time would be the 8:42am bus from Northgate.
  • If you don't mind a bit of a warm up and cool down walk, there are lots of parking lots on the other side of the lake, nearest the boat house.

What distance can I run/walk?

In-person race is a 5K distance, 3.1 miles. The kids dash will be roughly a quarter mile. The virtual you can run any distance you choose but to be considered for the official results, you can complete 3.1 miles.

Will there be a time limit?

No, we are there until the last person finishes!

Will everyone start at once?

No, we will start in waves, based on the pace you choose when you register. Waves will be 5 minutes apart to minimize crowding on the trail. You can choose your wave start time in the sign up process. We will have 5 waves:

Wave 1 - 8:00 minute per mile pace or under

Wave 2 - 8:00 - 10:00 minute per mile pace

Wave 3 - 10:00 - 12:00 minute per mile pace

Wave 4 - 12:00 - 14:00 minute per mile pace

Wave 5 - 14:00 minute mile pace or over

Where can I find course maps?

The 5K course map can be found here

The Kid’s Dash course map can be found here.

Where does the race start and finish?

In front of the Community Center at Greenlake Park in Seattle, WA. Address is 7201 E. Greenlake Dr N Seattle, WA 98115.

What kinds of surfaces will I be running on?

Mostly pavement with a section of gravel at the end.

Will there be food/water?

Of course! There will be a water station at the halfway mark of the 5K and we will have water and snacks at the finish line.

Are strollers allowed?

Yes, we just ask that you line up at the back of the starting area of your assigned corral.

Can I inline skate the course?

Unfortunately due to insurance issues inline skating will not be allowed.

Will there be a gear check?

Yes, we will have a gear check tent, but please do not plan on leaving any valuables. We are not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Are dogs allowed?

Yes, if they are well-behaved and on a short leash. We ask that you line up at the back of the starting area.

Where should I do my run/walk if I sign up for the virtual option?

While the in-person option is a 5K run/walk, the virtual option can be whatever distance works for you. Find a route that is a safe place to run or walk with good sidewalks. Check out your neighborhood or visit a new one. To be added to the official Seattle Kraken 5K results please run or walk a distance as close to 3.1 as possible.

What if I can’t run or walk on October 5?

Sign up for the virtual option and run/walk whenever works for your schedule. Unfortunately we cannot offer any refunds. Packets will not be mailed if you miss the in-person event. You can switch to the virtual event up until September 21st.

Do you need volunteers?

Yes! We would love to have your help. We could use your help at registration, handing out water, at the food tents…. Volunteers get a shirt and are entered in for a chance to win the volunteer prize. Sign up here

There will also be a prize for anyone running in full hockey gear. Prizes to be handed out at the finish line. You must complete the entire 5K course in your gear.

How does the Kid’s Dash work?

The Kid’s Dash is open to all kids under age 12. It is a free event but we ask that you sign up your little ones so we know how many to plan for. The dash will be roughly a quarter mile long, around the Community Center building. You may run with your kids, but you do not have to. The course will be well marked and kids will get a special finisher’s prize at the finish line.
