Shoulder Season Stoke

Thu September 1 - Mon October 31 Anchorage, AK 99524 US

Q & A

Q1. Just found about this Challenge! Is it too late to sign up?

No, it’s not too late! Registration is open till 10/15/22. Come join us! You are able to backlog your  pre-registration verticals if you remember.

Q2. What does this Challenge support?

100% of the registration fee and your donation (minus processing fee) goes to AMRG.  It will be used for vehicle maintenance, shared gear, training from external organizations, and communication tools.

Q3. How do I submit my workouts?

Here are the detailed instructions on how you'll submit your results once they become available to submit on 9/1/2022 through 11/5/2022. You could submit results every day, a few times a week, or weekly as long as you remember your elevation gain and the date you accomplished.

Below are the steps you'll need to take. The pictures follow along with the steps.

METHOD 1 (This does not work if you have your Profile set as anonymous.)

STEP 1: Go to www.Runsignup.com and click "RESULTS".

STEP 2: Click "Submit Virtual Results"

STEP 3: Search for your registration either by first and last name or by email address and DOB.

STEP 4: Click "Log Activities"

STEP 5: Enter your activity, date, and elevation gain (in feet). You could enter your time and add comment if you'd like.

METHOD 2

STEP 1: Login to www.Runsignup.com and click "Profile"

STEP 2: Under your Upcoming Events > Select Submit Virtual Results > Enter in your Time > select Submit Time

STEP 3: Enter your activity, date, and elevation gain (in feet). You could enter your time and add comment if you'd like.

Q4. How does Team Registration work?

If you and your friend register as a team of two, both of you will work towards one goal by sharing the load. For example, if you two team up and register for Everest, each of you could do 14516’, or one of you get 9032’ and the other will do 20K’. The number of team member could be anywhere between two and four. Be sure to register for the same event (same target elevation), or it would not recognize as a team.

Q5. I signed up for Redoubt but it was too easy! Can I change my goal?

Yes! You could change your goal elevation anytime till 10/30/22. There is no event transfer fee. However, the elevations that you have already put it would not be automatically transferred. You could enter the total elevation gain you have done and put “transferred from Redoubt” under Comment.

Q6. How do I track my elevation gain?

There are free GPS apps available such as like Gaia, Strava, CalTopo, etc for hike, run, bike. For stairs or rock climbing, one way is to estimate the elevation/lap and count the number of laps you did. If you use a treadmill or a stairmaster, please read the manual and it explains it to you. To calculate the vertical gain from stairs, you can use the calculator at this link courtesy of Fit for Trips.

Q7. Do I need to calculate cumulative elevation gain?

No. You enter your daily elevation gain in your RunSignup account (please see the instruction above). RunSignup will calculate the cumulative elevation for you.

Q8. I don’t live in Alaska. Can I participate in this Challenge?

Yes! Whether you live out of state or traveling, we would love it if you joined :) If you live outside of the USA and would like to participate, please contact us at sss.amrg@gmail.com.

Q9. Can I hide my name on the results page?

Yes. To change the setting to anonymous, login to RunSignup and go to your profile. Click the edit icon on the top right corner of your Main Account Information. Enter your password at the top, and scroll down all the way. Check “Show as anonymous” and Save.

Q10. When will I receive my swag?

We will set up dates and locations for handouts and we will let you know by the end of September. For those who don't live in/near Anchorage or the Valley, we will ship your buff and finisher sticker (if you finish!) in November.

Q11. Are there any awards by getting more elevation gain than everyone else?

There are no awards for it. We encourage everyone to have active life and challenge towards your own goal. This is not a competition with others.

Q12. I entered my morning run results already and I ended up going for a bike ride after work. Can I enter twice a day?

Good job! Yes, you can enter your results multiple times a day.

Q13. Do I need to enter my results immediately after I complete my activity?

No, you could enter daily, every few days, or weekly. Just remember the elevation gain and the dates.

Q14. How does Friends Referral work?

When you register for the Challenge, you will receive a referral URL. If you share the link with your friend, and when they register by using the link, you will get $5 back. When another friend of yours registers using the link, you’ll get another $5 back. The link could be used by up to four of your friends, which means you would get up to $20 back.

Q15. Why there are two fields to enter for elevation gain?

RunSignup website is geared towards Distance Challenge rather than Elevation. We modified it to Elevation Challenge. It ended up needing to enter the same number (in feet) twice.

Q16. Why the elevation by category is blank under Walk/Hike and Ski(up)?

It’s a bug in RunSignup. They don’t have a way to show it at this time. Sorry! Good news is your entry is still counted towards your total gain.
