About Sisters at Heart
OUR MISSION:
Founded in 2007, Sisters at Heart's main mission is to promote breast cancer awareness and support men and women diagnosed. We are a 501c.3 non-profit group under Chesapeake Charities that is made up of survivors and dedicated volunteers. Our hope is to Make a Difference in the lives of those affected with this disease, be an advocate for early detection as well as provide education and support services for years to come.
BREAST CANCER: Key Statistics:
INCIDENCE:
- Approximately 316,950 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in 2025.
- An additional 59,080 cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer will also be diagnosed.
- For men, about 2,800 new cases of invasive breast cancer are anticipated.
MORTALITY:
- It is estimated that 42,680 deaths will occur due to breast cancer in 2025.
SURVIVATL RATES:
- The 5-year relative survival rate for breast cancer, when detected early, is approximately 99%.
- Despite advances in treatment and early detection, disparities in outcomes persist, particularly among different demographic groups.
LIFETIME RISK:
- About 1 in 8 women (approximately 13%) will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in their lifetime.
