About Sisters at Heart
OUR MISSION:
Founded in 2007, Sisters at Heart's main mission is to promote breast cancer awareness and support men and women diagnosed. We are a 501c.3 non-profit group under Chesapeake Charities that is made up of survivors and dedicated volunteers. Our hope is to Make a Difference in the lives of those affected with this disease, be an advocate for early detection as well as provide education and support services for years to come.
BREAST CANCER FACTS:
- Breast Cancer is the most common cancer & second leading cause of cancer deaths among women
- Every 2 minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States & over 276,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year
- 1-8 women will develop breast cancer over the course of her lifetime
- In 2024, an estimated 310,720 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 56,500 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer. There are currently over 4 million breast cancer survivors in the United States. An estimated 42,250 U.S. women will die from breast cancer in 2024
