SUPERHERO TRAINING CAMP
It's hard work to be a superhero. Luckily, we have a training program laid out for you to prepare for the task.
DAY 1: PICK YOUR SUPERHERO NAME
Being a superhero can be dangerous work. It's good to have an alter ego. You can invent your own superhero name, or use the guide below to create one.

It's important to always carry ID on you! Print out this template and fill it in with your superhero name and abilities.
Day 1 Training: Books and Songs
Superheroes come in all shapes and sizes. Here are a few of our favorite books for the smallest members of your Super Squad (board books for toddlers).
Stay active and dance along with "Let's Be Superheroes"
DAY 2: SUPERHERO MASKS & BOOKS
Read about what makes someone SUPER in these children's books.
Family means protecting one another, standing up for each other, and making sure everyone feels safe and included. Join Batman for story time today as he reads “Family is a Superpower” by Michael Dahl.
The next step in protecting your secret identity is to construct your Superhero mask!
Here is a no-sew Superhero mask tutorial- all you need is felt and ribbon: https://en.paperblog.com/no-sew-superhero-mask-tutorial-26236/
Or use this link to learn how to make a paper plate Superhero mask! https://www.thehappyhomelife.com/superhero-paper-plate-crafts/
Don’t have those materials in the house? No problem! We have also posted mask templates you can print, color in, and secure with string, elastic band, or any similar material you have in your craft box.
DAY2: Long Jump Training Station
The Long Jump training station is about pushing your limits. There may be times where you feel like you’ve given all you got, but if you dig a little deeper you will find undiscovered strength.
Use sidewalk chalk to mark lines on the sidewalk or a patio space. Make at least six lines that are about 10 inches apart. Name each line after your favorite super heroes. Make your jumps and add your super hero name to show how far you can jump. Jump 3 times to see if you can beat your record.

DAY 3: Capes, Books & Balance
It’s time to prepare for those rooftop fights against villains!
Place two buckets upside down onto the grass and lay a thick and study board across to make a bridge. Enhance your balance by taking turns walking across the plank

Reading IS a superpower! Check out these excting Superhero chapter books.
Another Superhero outfit essential: the cape. If
you don’t already have one, they are easy to make!
Try the No-Sew Superhero T-shirt Cape: all you need is an old t-shirt, scissors, strong glue, and some type of
decorations (fabric paint, felt, fabric markets, etc.). Check out this guide here.
TIP: If you have it, add Velcro or a button to the neckline for an easy release to prevent choking. There is nothing worse than your cape getting stuck on an obstacle and it holding you back while chasing a villain!
Fun Run participants will get a free children's cape at the event. Additional children and adult size capes will be available for purchase.
Day 4: DIY Shields and Teamwork
All that’s missing now is your Superhero accessories! Shields are handy for protecting you against attacks.
You can use any flat, round object to construct your shield: paper plates, cardboard boxes and Frisbees are just a few examples. Cover them with construction paper, fabric or paint. Glue or tape a paper strap on the back to secure it on your arm!
A Superhero is only as strong as their teammates
and communication is the key! Choose a partner, find a blindfold, and place a stuffy or action figure friend
somewhere to be rescued.
Goal: Teammates take turns guiding the blindfolded hero (USING ONLY THEIR WORDS) to find and rescue the toy in distress.
Tip: choose a room or section of your yard with limited obstacles to ensure no harm comes to your heroes!

Even the youngest of Superheroes need to learn to work together. Tune in for story time for “Batman and Batgirl Unite” by Michael Dahl, with pictures by Omar Lozano.
Day 5: Agility, Cuffs and Story
Superheroes need to be agile - in their personal lives and on the streets! You never know when you are going to need to snap into action or take a quick turn while chasing down the bad guy.
Create an agility challenge by printing out the Superhero Hop Gross Motor Game. Lay out the squares, turn on the music, and jump from square to square practicing the moves or play it musical chairs style and perform the move you land on whenever the music stops.

The last piece of your costume are your Superhero cuffs! These help you deflect attacks and take down your enemies. Take empty toilet paper rolls, color, paint or cover them in construction paper, and decorate however you like! If your hands don't fit through the hole, cut the roll on the bottom and clasp over your wrists.
