2024 Special Olympics Community Torch Run

Midland's very FIRST Special Olympics Torch Run!

Sport has always had the ability to bring communities together. Comradery, teamwork, sweat, and hard work make for an inspiring show! We invite you to join us, our community, in kicking off the spring Special Olympics in support of these athletes that come from near and far for the competition. 

About Special Olympics: 

Through the power of sports, people with intellectual disabilities discover new strengths and abilities, skills and success. Our athletes inspire people in their communities and elsewhere to open their hearts to a wider world of human talents and potential.

Special Olympics' Mission:

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Race Day Schedule:

BIB Pick Up 6:45am- 7:45am  

Torch Run Begins 8:00am                                                                                                                                                                                                                         

Special Olympics Begins 9:00am

Midland Memorial Stadium                                                                                                                                                                                                               

2001 W Cuthbert Ave, Midland, TX 79701 

Route:

This 5k (3.1 mile) route winds through old Midland neighborhoods, past iconic Wadley Barron Park and pond, and beside the current Midland High School. You'll catch a glimpse of some of the best things Midland has to offer before returning back to Midland Memorial Stadium where the real fun begins!

Volunteer Information: 

We cannot throw these races without you! Volunteering provides an opportunity to serve participants at aid stations, on the course with directions, with post race food and drinks, etc. Need community service hours? We are happy to accommodate you!
