I guess we had to see this coming!  I held out hope that things would improve, but here we are.  In an effort to ensure public safety and to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we are having to cancel the onsite event for Deafinitely Not Different 5k and Fun Run.  Continuing the event at the risk of putting participants in harm’s way doesn’t seem like a good way to thank you all for your support!.
What does this mean for you?
Runners:  We are going to switch to a virtual event.  I am hoping you will all participate and make this as interactive as possible.  We have an amazing community surrounding and supporting our students. Let’s continue our support and enthusiasm virtually.  Post pictures on our Facebook/Instagram or email pictures to be posted (lindsay.chandler@pisd.edu). Tag us in posts related to your virtual run.  You can even make a video! Even though we are distancing ourselves physically, we can come together virtually!
     After Your Run:  Please go to https://tinyurl.com/2020VRtime to input your time.  Deadline to submit your time is March 29th at 11:59 pm.  Don’t forget to share a picture with us!  
     Your Swag (t-shirt and goodies): We will mail your swag to you.  PISD staff, we will hand deliver or interoffice it to you.
     Next Year:  We are working on giving you a pretty substantial discount for next year’s race to anyone who is registered this year.  Be on the lookout for an email.

Lot’s of us are looking for ways to be entertained!  Not to worry!  We'll throw you a bone next year too.  Be on the look out for a discount for next year too!

For Everyone:  We are looking into plans for a community “Thank You for Your Patience When We Had to Cancel” event later in the year.  This would give us an opportunity to get together and fellowship at a later date. It will give sponsors another opportunity to be seen and families an opportunity to network.  And most importantly, an opportunity to pet the llamas!!! IF this comes together, we will send out an email and a form to RSVP.

Again, THANK YOU for your support.  I am always blown away by the love our program receives every year from the Deaf community,  PISD staff and students, avid runners, and our families. Unlike other races, every cent earned goes back to our students, and you all have made a huge impact on our program once again!  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Race happens rain or shine! 

Deafinitely Not Different 5k and Fun Run is a run that benefits students who attend Plano Regional Day School Program for the Deaf.  Every year we have middle school students who attend a Math Competition at Rochester Institute of Technology and high school students who attend Academic Bowl through Gallaudet University.  Participating in the run this year will help offset the costs of these trips.  You will also help provide language rich learning experiences for our students in the classroom and around the community all year long.

Plano Regional Day School Program for the Deaf provides services for over 400 families of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in Collin County, Richardson, and Coppell.

Race happens rain or shine!  A shirt is included with registration!  Thank you for supporting us! 

Once Again:  We will be honoring the parents in our program this year with special shirts.

(The 5k is 3.1 miles.  The Fun Run is 1 mile.)

When is Packet Pick Up?

Packet Pick up will be Thursday, March 26 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and Friday, March 27 from 6:00pm-8:00pm.  We will be just inside the West side of the school (park in the parking lot behind the Fire Station).  Vines High School is located at 1401 Highedge in Plano TX.

 

Where is the Fun Run?

 The Fun Run will be four times around the track.  Don’t worry, we’ll make it fun!

 

What do I do if I signed up to volunteer the day of the event? 

First of all, THANKS!  Just check in at the Volunteer Table when you get here and we’ll tell you know where you are needed.   This year we are providing shirts for our volunteers!

 If you are helping with the set up, we are meeting at 5:00am. 

If you are part of the Cheer Section, we are meeting anywhere from 7:00-7:30.

If you are helping take down, we are meeting at 8:30.

 

Can I register the day of the event?

Of course!  However, we cannot guarantee that you will get the correct size shirt.  Shirts will be available until we run out.

 

Can my company sponsor your event?

Will there be things for kids to do?

Yes!  We want this to be a family-friendly event.  We also want our Plano RDSPD families to be able to meet each other and build support groups.  We will have sidewalk chalk, a coloring station, a photo booth, and a few other things we're working on.

This year, all participants receive this shirt with registration.

Volunteer Shirt

 All volunteers who sign up online by February first will get a short sleeve shirt!  This event is not possible without you so we want to show our gratitude!

Parent Shirts

We want to be able to recognize all of our awesome parents so be sure to identify yourself during registration.  All of our parents will receive a shirt that will help us recognize them.
