Marathon Relay

The Basics

  • Teams of 2 to 4 runners cover the full 26.2 miles together.
  • Each runner takes one or two legs of approximately 6.85 or 6.25 miles.
  • Teams of 2 are welcome. Each teammate simply runs two legs.

Part 1: Registration

If you're the Team Captain

  1. Register and select Marathon Relay.
  2. Choose Create Team and answer the team questions.
  3. Pay for the full team registration. Your teammates will pay you back.

As Team Captain, you'll get an email each time someone joins your team. You're also responsible for making sure everyone registers on time.

If you're a Team Member

  1. Know your team before you sign up.
  2. [Click here to register] and select Marathon Relay, Join a Team.
  3. Finish registration. You won't be charged, because your captain has already paid. Please be sure to pay them back!

Your captain gets an email when you join. You're responsible for registering yourself, on time, on the correct team.

Part 2: Race Day

Bibs and Timing

  • Every team member gets an official relay bib (no timing chip). Wear it on the outside of your top.
  • Each team also gets one timing belt with a chipped, numbered team bib. Buckle it on the active runner and pass it along at each exchange. Whoever is running wears two bibs.
  • Bibs, belt, and T-shirts are all handed out at packet pickup. Please have one team member pick up the packet for the entire team.

Buses to the Relay Exchange Zone

If you're running Leg 2 or Leg 4, please take our buses to the exchange zone at Mitchell Field.

  • First bus: leaves Huron and Ashley at 7:50 a.m.
  • Second bus: leaves the same location at 9:00 a.m. After arriving at Mitchell Field, it picks up runners who have finished Leg 1, then shuttles between the start/finish area and Mitchell Field until 1:00 p.m.
  • Leg 3 runners arriving at Mitchell Field after 1:00 p.m. will need a ride from teammates (or a reimbursed Uber, courtesy of your teammates).

Gear Check Bags

  • Legs 1 and 3 can send dry clothes on the bus to be waiting at Mitchell Field.
  • Legs 2 and 4 can send a bag of extra clothing back to the start/finish area.
  • Bags and labels are available at packet pickup the day before, at the gear check area on race day, and on the buses.
  • Use only our provided clear bags. All contents must be visible, so please don't stuff your gym bag inside. Personal bags and bags that don't follow these rules will be left behind.

Leg distances may change due to construction or other course modifications beyond our control.

Your Leg

Leg 1 (approx. 6.85 miles)
You start at the official start line with everyone else. If you'd like warm, dry clothes waiting when you finish, pack them in a gear check bag and have your teammate bring it on the 7:50 a.m. bus. When you arrive at Mitchell Field, your bag will be there, and a bus will take you back to the start/finish area.

Leg 2 (approx. 6.25 miles)
Take the bus to Mitchell Field. You can leave your belongings on the bus or give them to a teammate, as long as they're in one of our provided bags. Pick them up at bag check in the start/finish area.

Leg 3 (approx. 6.85 miles)
Your exchange spot is at Ashley and William, on the east side of the street by the bank parking.

Leg 4 (approx. 6.25 miles)
Same as Leg 2, though you may prefer the 9:00 a.m. bus over the 7:50. Your choice!

The Finish

As you approach the finish line, your teammates join you to cross together. You'll all receive your well-deserved medals, because there's no "I" in TEAM!
