Fundraising FAQs
Fundraising ensures that every person who enters The Haven's Day Shelter has access to basic care and respite services that meet their everyday human needs at no cost to themselves, while also simply being able to exist in a safe, secure, climate-controlled, welcoming, and nonjudgmental space. The Day Shelter is a refuge, where, when they are ready, community members can quickly move out of homelessness into housing.
Proceeds from Run for Home directly fund The Haven's Day Shelter.
As the only low-barrier, year-round day shelter in the Charlottesville area, The Haven's Day Shelter is open every day of the year and provides healthy meals, showers facilities and hygiene products, laundry facilities, mail service, phone and computer access, and a safe, secure, climate-controlled, welcoming, and nonjudgmental place to be. Additionally, the Day Shelter responds to urgent needs like procuring government issued IDs, obtaining shoes and prescription glasses, accessing physical and mental healthcare, including addiction support, and acts as a central location to connect with area service providers.
No. Fundraising is encouraged but not required.
Your registration fee helps us cover event costs, but your fundraising efforts amplify our impact. Whether you raise $20 or $2,000, your support helps us provide daily support, connection, and housing to our neighbors experiencing homelessness.
Many participants aim to raise between $100 and $500, but any amount helps. Don’t underestimate the power of a few small donations—sharing your story and why you care about our cause can inspire others to give.
There are 2 ways to create a Fundraising team:
(1) During Registration - You will be given the option to create or join a Fundraising Team. To join an existing team, select the team from the drop-down under "Join a Team Fundraiser". To create a new team, toggle the "Create a Team Fundraiser" to 'Yes' and fill in the team info!
(2) From the Run for Home website - Go to the "Fundraising Page" header, login to your RunSignUp account, and then "View Fundraiser" under your name.
There are a few ways to access your individual or team fundraiser page:
- Use the link in your registration email that says "Manage Fundraiser" (under the barcode).
- Refer to the "New with The Haven's Run for Home!" email, that contains lots of detail on fundraising and select the 1st link.
- Visit the Run for Home website and login to your RunSignUp account. Navigate to the "Fundraising Page" header. You'll see your fundraiser listed and in the drop-down menu next to View Fundraiser, select "Edit Fundraiser".
Share your individual or team Fundraiser with friends, family, or anyone who might be interested in supporting you by sending them a link to your Fundraising page where they select "Donate". This will link their donation to your fundraiser!
The shareable link to your Fundraising page can be found:
- In the "New with The Haven's Run for Home!" email. The shareable link is the 2nd one!
