2021 Race Updates

2021 is a brand new year, yet we are unsure of what COVID conditions will be like in December.  We are preparing for this year's race as though we need to adhere to the guidelines that currently exist and were in place for 2020's race.  As things change, so will race procedures, so check back before race day for final guidelines.  We will e-mail participants updates as race day approaches and are looking forward to a successful race in 2021!

General Information

This year marks the 21st running of the Fredericksburg Blue and Gray Half Marathon.  Join us on Sunday, December 5th as we run through historic Fredericksburg, VA.

Be sure to check out the information on this site periodically for any modifications to packet pickup and race procedures.

We are also offering a virtual option this year.  Virtual runners earn the same great SWAG and will have access to the RaceJoy app on their phones for an enhanced virtual experience.

Fredericksburg Area Running Club members automatically receive a $5 discount at checkout.

This race is the final race in the 2021 FARC Coldwell Banker Elite Grand Prix Race Series.

There is a 3 1/2 hour time limit to complete the Half Marathon

COVID-19 Information

Things may be slightly different this year due to COVID-19, but we are confident that we can put on a safe and fun event for everyone.  Here are some of our guidelines assuming that Virginia remains in Phase 3.

  • We are accepting online registration only to limit contact points
  • Runners will start in waves of 25.   Waves will be spaced 1-2 minutes apart
  • Starting line area will be marked to keep runners 6 feet apart while waiting for the race to begin
  • Aid stations will be modified to limit contact with volunteers.

Deferral and Cancellation Policy

We want to be up front about our cancellation and refund policy so you know ahead of time what our contingency plans are.  Hopefully no further restrictions are put in place, but if changes to current regulations cause the in-person race to be cancelled, registered runners for the in-person Half Marathon can:

Option 1:  Defer to the 2022 Blue and Gray Half Marathon.

Option 2:  Switch races to the 2021 Virtual Blue and Gray Half Marathon and be refunded the difference between the price paid for the in-person race and the cost of the virtual option.

We are hoping that this does not happen, but if it does we will notify you and provide further instructions on how to select your option.

*This only applies to the in-person race.  There will be no refunds or deferrals for those who are registered for the virtual option.
