Sat March 6 - Sun March 7 Free Union, VA 22940 US Directions

Saturday March 6, 2021, 7:00 am

The 11th Annual Haven 8K Run For Home will be hosted in beautiful Free Union on Saturday, March 6th. We will keep our participants safe with a staggered start of 10 people every 5 minutes beginning at 7:00 a.m.

UPDATE: All of our in-person race slots have been filled! If you'd like to be added to the wait-list please sign up HERE.

We are also offering virtual 8K Run and 4K walk options where you can run your race on your own.

All participants, whether virtual or in-person, are eligible to receive a special "Haven" beanie. The beanies and race bibs (for the in-person 8K-ers) will be available at the Ragged Mountain shop the week before the race, 9-5, starting Tuesday March 2 through Friday March 5. We should have enough beanies for everyone but we can't guarantee it! So come by Ragged Mountain early in the week if you want to be sure to get a beanie.

All race proceeds benefit THE HAVEN in downtown Charlottesville.  THE HAVEN is a safe and welcoming day shelter for people currently experiencing or at risk of homelessness.  Serving over 85 people daily, The Haven provides respite for the weary and transformation for the ready.  Until there's a place to call home, there's THE HAVEN.

**Any extra help you can provide The Haven is especially important this year.** Last year's race, right before the pandemic hit, was a huge success with our best participant numbers yet. But this year, in order to maintain safe conditions, we need to cap our in-person runners. Race proceeds will necessarily be down but The Haven is still out there every day providing critical services to members of our community. There are several ways to provide additional support:

  • Add an EXTRA donation to The Haven during race registration. There will be an option during checkout.
  • JUST DONATE! Whether you can participate or not, any and all donations to The Haven are welcome.
  • ORDER some EXTRA RACE SWAG from Custom Ink! Show your support around town and order a limited edition Haven Run for Home t-shirt, long-sleeve performance shirt, or hoodie. Orders will close March 11 with estimated delivery around March 29. More details here or just place your order now!

The Haven 8K, the third race in the RaceFest series, is traditionally thought of as a warm up race for the Charlottesville 10 Miler. As the third event in our 2021 RACEFEST series, we will be keeping track of your individual points you accumulate at each event in the series. 5 points will be awarded each time you complete an event. You may accumulate more points based on your age group finish (3 points for 1st in your age group, 2 for 2nd and 1 for 3rd). Top 3 overall placers will also be awarded points. There are 8 races in the series, starting with the NYD5K. Visit to sign up.

March 1-5, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Ragged Mountain Running & Walking Shop, 3 Elliewood Ave, Charlottesville, VA 22903

**Participants in the in-person Free Union 8K must pick up their race packet and beanie the week before the race.**

**Virtual participants do not need to pick up a race packet, but please feel free to come by Ragged Mountain to pick up a Haven beanie! Beanies available for pickup only. Cannot be shipped.**

  1. Due to limited participant slots, only the 8K run is being offered at Free Union. There is no 4K option for Free Union. If interested in a 4K option, please register for the virtual 4K.
  2. Registration is $40. There are NO refunds or deferrals.
  3. Masks are required at ALL times with the exception of when you're actually out running or walking the course. Please wear a mask as soon as you get out of your vehicle, during any warmups, and please put your mask on immediately after crossing the finish line. This is for the safety of our medical team, our volunteers and for you, our guests. All volunteers will be wearing masks as well. Thanks!
  4. Each Free Union time slot will be limited to 10 openings due to Virginia and Albemarle county COVID-19 safety guidelines. Note that each slot will NOT start together as one single wave. It will be a rolling start so as to keep everyone as physically distanced and safe as possible. You just have to begin your race within 5 minutes after your starting time.
  5. We are thrilled to have chip timing for this year’s event, thanks to our friends at Blue Ridge Timing, so we will have overall and age group results. We will not post the results until the last finisher has completed the event. Age groups are as follows: 10 & younger, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+.
  6. Your race number must be pinned (in all four corners) to the outside layer of your front, so as to properly trigger your chip. If you have multiple members of your family running, please make sure that you each wear the correct number (your names are on the back of each number)
  7. Due to pandemic safety measures, only registered participants are permitted. Sorry, no spectators.
  8. NO strollers or dogs will be allowed on the race course.
  9. We will have portable toilets at the race site for your convenience.
  10. Dr. Wilder, our wonderful longtime Race Medical Director, will be on hand, along with his Runner’s Clinic crew. We are grateful for their ongoing volunteer help. We also appreciate the help of our CTC volunteers, who will be helping to safely guide you throughout your race experience

  1. For virtual races, you can run an 8K or 4K on your own anytime between March 6 2021 and March 7 2021.
  2. 8K virtual participants will receive credit for RACEFEST. After you've completed your course, you can submit your time to us.
  3. Unfortunately, virtual racers are not eligible for prizes.
