Description

Looking for a fun, slightly ridiculous, definitely memorable running challenge? You’ve found it!

The Sheetz-to-Sheetz Trail Run is a 14-mile, untimed point-to-point adventure benefiting local kids and other worthy causes. We start at one Sheetz, wind through farmland and forest, and finish at another Sheetz. Most of the route follows the Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail (DRHT), a flat, scenic rails-to-trails gem. Shuttle buses haul runners from the finish area and event parking in Dahlgren to the start line, so you only have to run one direction — forward.

While we hand out cool awards for our top overall and Masters (50+) finishers, the real prize is the experience: quirky aid stations stocked with pie, s’mores, Peeps, soft pretzels, and other culinary curveballs you won’t find at Boston or Berlin.

Finishers earn swag they’ll actually use — an insulated Sheetz travel mug (filled with Sheetz Bros. coffee), free MTO food vouchers, a sweat towel, reusable race cup, snacks, and a drawstring bag to haul it all home. You won't earn a drawer medal -- the travel mug you can use daily serves as your finisher medal!

Note: With the exception of trained service animals, dogs are not permitted to run as part of this event.

📦 Packet Pickup

We’ve got you covered with four convenient options to grab your race packet — three before race day and one on race morning. Your packet includes your bib, optional pre-ordered shirt, Sheetz snack, and a sponsor goodie bag. Please note your HydraPak SpeedCup will be handed out at the start line on race day, and your finisher mug and swag bag await you at the finish line (because, well, you’ve gotta earn those).

Pickup Options
  • Wednesday, April 1 – Richmond
4:00–6:30 p.m. @ Lucky Road Run Shop, Willow Lawn (1601 Willow Lawn Drive)
    🎁 Giveaway: $10 off coupon

  • Thursday, April 2 – Fredericksburg
    4:00–6:30 p.m. @ Lucky Road Run Shop (1865 Carl D. Silver Pkwy)
    🎁 Giveaway: $10 off coupon

  • Friday, April 3 – Dahlgren (Finish Line Store)
4:00–6:30 p.m. @ Sheetz, (17188 Owens Drive, less than half a mile from several hotels)
Giveaway: Free coffee or fountain drink (in-person only)

  • Saturday, April 4 – King George (Start Line)
    6:30–7:50 a.m. @ O’Reilly Auto Parts, next to the start-line Sheetz (10032 Arnold’s Corner Ct)
IMPORTANT: If you’re taking the shuttle from event parking (a 20-minute ride), please hop on an early bus to allow time for transportation, packet pickup, bag drop, and pre-race prep.

You may pick up packets for other runners as long as you can show proof of permission (like a copy of their confirmation email, QR code, or photo ID).

🏨 Hotels, Parking & Pre-Race Shuttle Service

🛌 Staying Overnight?

While we couldn’t secure a hotel block or discount rate, there are several convenient options near the finish line and event parking in Dahlgren. The My Place Hotel and Holiday Inn Express are the newest and closest — both within walking distance of Friday’s packet pickup, the finish line, and post-race activities. (See map.) Three additional hotels sit within a half mile, just across the highway, and are easily searchable online.

🚌 Pre-Race Parking and Shuttle Details

Remember, this is a point-to-point race — we start at the King George Middle School Sheetz and finish at the Dahlgren Sheetz.

All participants should park at the King George Gateway Shopping Center (16435 Merchants Ln, King George, VA), located next to the finish line in Dahlgren. Free shuttle buses will transport runners to the start line beginning at 6:30 a.m. The last bus departs promptly at 7:30 a.m. — no exceptions!

The ride to the start takes about 20 minutes, so plan accordingly to allow time for race-day packet pickup (if needed), bag drop, restroom stops, and pre-race coffee and nervous laughter. All these amenities are available at the start line, not the parking area.

🚶🏻 Post-Race Transportation

When you finish, you can celebrate at the finish line Sheetz, grab some coffee or snacks, and then either walk a short ¼ mile back to parking or hop aboard the Bayside Ford courtesy shuttle.

If you prefer to handle your own transportation, you may park across from the start line at King George Middle School— just please do not park at either Sheetz store or O’Reilly Auto Parts.

⚠️ Remember this is a point-to-point course with pre-race transportation provided. There is no transportation provided post-race back to the start line area.

🌎 Cupless Racing

We’re proud to be a cupless race — one more way the Sheetz-to-Sheetz Trail Run keeps things fun and sustainable. To reduce waste and protect the beautiful Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail, we’ve eliminated single-use cups and bottles at all aid stations. Instead, each runner will receive a HydraPak SpeedCup at the start line — a lightweight, collapsible, easy-to-carry cup you can reuse during and after the race.

Hydration (water and Dr. Raindrop electrolyte drink) will be efficiently poured into your SpeedCup by our volunteers. You're also welcome to serve yourself or carry your own handheld or hydration pack.

By going cupless, we’re keeping roughly 2,000 disposable cups and bottles out of the landfill every year — a small change with a big impact on our trails and community.

🎁 Shweet Shwag

For finishing most races, you earn a medal you toss in a drawer. Boring!
Finish the Sheetz-to-Sheetz Trail Run, and you’ll earn swag you’ll actually use — including a Sheetz stainless steel insulated travel mug, custom sweat towel, vouchers for free Sheetz Made-To-Order (MTO) food and drink, and plenty of post-race snacks.

We’ll even fill your fancy new mug with fresh Sheetz Bros. coffee inside the store and feed you fruit, doughnuts, and other treats while you celebrate your 14-mile adventure.

But wait, there’s more! You’ll also receive a HydraPak SpeedCup (for cupless racing) and a drawstring bag to carry it all in.

(2024 race swag shown for illustration purposes only. Final style and colors TBD.)

Can’t make it to race day? No worries — we’ve got a few flexible options to help you out.

🛡️ Independent Race Insurance
Available during registration for a modest fee, this optional insurance protects your race entry under certain circumstances.
Please note: this service is provided by a third party — the race and RunSignup have no involvement in claims, questions, or refunds.

🔄 Transfers
You can transfer your bib to another runner and receive a full refund (minus a $5 processing fee) up until race week. You’ll just need to find another participant to take your spot and complete the process through RunSignup's participant-to-participant transfer process (instructions).

Transfer Window:

  • Must be initiated by 3/27/26 and completed by 3/29/26.
  • Look for the “Bib Trading Post” on our Facebook and Instagram pages (posted Jan. 18th) — runners often connect there to swap bibs.

Other Transfer Details:

  • The original runner receives a refund (minus fees); the new runner pays the current race price.
  • Shirt changes are only available through 2/15/26, our shirt order cutoff.
  • Transfers completed after 2/15/26 will have shirts refunded or canceled automatically.
  • Raffle entries transfer with the bib, but separately purchased tickets remain under the original name.
  • The wait list is used only for unclaimed sponsor spots or deferrals — not transfers.

📅 Deferrals
Don’t want to transfer your spot? You can defer your entry for one year for a $20 fee.
You’ll receive a unique coupon code or reserved entry link for next year’s race.

Deadline: 3/14/26 (three weeks before race day)
Please note: Only race entries can be deferred — shirts and store items cannot.

  1. Independent Race Insurance - Offered during registration for a modest fee, race insurance can insure a refund of race entry costs for a variety of circumstances. Please note this service is offered by a third party, and neither the race nor RunSignup are involved in any way whatsoever with claims, questions or refunds.
  2. Transfers - Runner-initiated transfers are allowed up until race week. You receive a full refund (minus a $5 fee for the originator) on the race entry but need to find and coordinate with another runner to transfer to. See the separate "Transfers" section below for more details.
  3. Deferrals - If you don't want to bother with the transfer portal, you may defer your registration for one year for a small fee ($20). You will receive a unique coupon code or reserved entry link for next year's race. To allow time to offer the deferred entry to the wait list, this option is only available up until two weeks (3/22/25) before race day. Only race entries are deferred - not add-ons (i.e., race shirt) or store purchases. (Instructions)

🏆 Prizes

This is an untimed fun run so we encourage everyone to take their time and enjoy the trail, aid stations, and overall experience. However, we also realize it can be a training run for competitive runners. For those who do make it a race, we'll offer the top male and female finishers (overall and Masters 50+) a $75 gift certificate to Lucky Road Run Shop (multiple locations in Richmond and Fredericksburg) AND a $75 gift certificate to Creekside Farm Brewery (King George). Each will also earn a cool custom trophy.

🎟️ Charity raffle

We’re thrilled to bring back the Charity Raffle for 2026 — with 100% of proceeds benefiting local children through our primary charity partner, Sheetz For the Kidz®.

Each registered runner is automatically entered into the raffle with one free ticket, and you can boost your odds (and your impact!) by purchasing additional tickets for $1 each during online registration or on race day at the finish line store.

Note: 2025 raffle items shown for illustration purposes.
Our fantastic prize packs include:

  • Set of 4 tickets to see the Fredericksburg Nationals
  • Full car detail from Bayside Ford
  • Sheetz prize pack to include a $25 Sheetz gift card, coffee and snacks
  • $50 gift certificate to any Lucky Road Run Shop location in Richmond or Fredericksburg
  • Sonicare smart electric toothbrush from Dr. Richard Cottrell, DDS, and Associates
  • $50 gift certificate to Creekside Farm Brewery
  • Sheetz-to-Sheetz prize pack to include a free entry to the 2026 event and a collection of logo merch
  • 1 of 5 Dr Raindrop Hydration Bundles, each with 50 servings, a mixer, and stainless steel tumbler

Note: Because of how RunSignup's transfer process works, if you purchase raffle tickets during registration and then transfer your entry, your raffle purchase will be refunded and the tickets canceled.
