Description

Start off the New Year with Richmond Road Runners Club's First Day 5K and Kids Fun Run/Walk, presented by Davenport & Company LLC. The 5K race features a fast and flat course that runs through the Roxshire neighborhood in Midlothian.

To mark the New Year, the race again features special divisions (and awards) for the top finishers wearing an evening gown or tux and awards for the runner with a finish time closest to 20:19.

There is a free Kids Fun Run/Walk (0.5 miles) after the 5K race.

Course & Course Rules

The 5K course is fast and flat through the Roxshire neighborhood. You'll have no problem setting your 5K personal best for 2019.

One water stop will support runners at about mile 2 and mile 3 on the course.

This is a road race conducted under the rules of USATF and RRCA. In consideration of the safety of all participants, the following are not allowed on the course during the race: baby joggers, baby strollers, animals on leash, skateboards, inline or roller skates, or bicycles. The use of personal music devices is strongly discouraged at this race. To enjoy all that our race has to offer and for the safety of all participants, RRRC encourages a headphone-free environment during the running of the First Day 5K.

PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR SAFETY. BE ALERT, WATCH FOR TRAFFIC & PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR FELLOW RUNNERS, COURSE MARSHALS, AND POLICE. 

Registration Fees & Rules

Runners must be 5 years old or older to participate in the 5K road race.

5K Registration

Pricing

  • Initial prices are: RRRC members - $15 plus processing fee; non-members - $25 plus processing fee
  • Prices increase December 3 to: RRRC members - $20 plus processing fee; non-members - $30 plus processing fee
  • Prices increase December 29 to: RRRC members - $25 plus processing fee; non-members - $35 plus processing fee
  • Prices on race day are: RRRC members and non-members - $35 plus processing fee

Youth Pricing: For all runners 5-12 years of age, the price is $5 plus processing fee.

Kids Fun Run/Walk is FREE -- but REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. 

Any discounts will be applied at check out.

All entry fees and processing fees are non-refundable and non-transferable, no exceptions. Registrations cannot be deferred to a later race. Bib numbers are not transferrable. In the event of postponements or cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, there will be no refunds.

Giveaway & Awards

The first 500 runners registered for the 5K will receive a commemorative water bottle. Runners in the Kids Fun Run/Walk will receive Chick Fil A Kid's Meal gift card and finishers will get a kid's medal.

There will be awards for the for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place male and female finishers overall and awards for the top male master and top female master finisher.  Ribbons will be awarded to the top finishers in the standard 5-year age groups. 

In celebration of the New Year, we have the following unique catagories:

  • 1st female finisher wearing an evening gown*
  • 1st male finisher wearing a tux*
  • 1st couple to finish wearing tux and evening gown (gender neutral)*
  • Runner who comes closest to finishing with a time of 20:19*

*Can win in only one category

The 5K race will be chip timed by Richmond Road Runners Club. Times will be posted on this website (Results menu tab) and on the RRRC website.

Bib Number Pick Up

Pre-Race Check-In and Bib Pick Up

  • Saturday or Sunday, day, time and location to be determined
  • Monday, December 31, tentatively 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM @ ACAC Midlothian

Race Day - Check-in and bib pick up begins at 9:30 AM inside ACAC Midlothian.

There is a $5.00 fee for replacing a lost or forgotten bib and chip on race day.

A unique and highly successful non-profit school serving children in grades K-12, Northstar Academy promotes educational excellence and career opportunities for students with disabilities who have academic, physical and social challenges. Some Northstar students and their parents will be volunteering at the First Day 5K.
