The lead bike guides runners, clears the course, and stays ahead of fastest runners by riding just ahead, ensuring safety and direction for participants. Since your main job is course management, not speed, a sturdy and reliable road or hybrid bike will work. Must be comfortable riding on hilly streets in Auburn.

Details

Help direct runners along the course. In front of the fairgrounds entrance, make sure participants cross that road safely and get onto the sidewalk (or shoulder) by the Bernhard Museum. Try to stop any cars from driving through as runners/walkers are trying to cross. Participants will continue down Auburn-Folsom Road and turn right on High Street.

Direct runners along the course. The Lewis intersection is in the town center next to the Auburn Art Park. Some cars zip through here. Stop traffic as best you can to allow runners/walkers to cross safely and continue on High Street. It's helpful to push the crosswalk button periodically. Have people stay on the right side of the road.

Help direct runners along the course. Please stand by the Auburn Clock Tower where High Street and Lincoln Way split. Instruct participants to cross safely, continue on High Street, past the former Avantgarden, and stay on the right side (sidewalk or shoulder).

Details

Help direct runners along the course. This is the corner where Monkey Cat is located. Participants will come down the hill from the Gold Rush museum. Make sure they turn left, up Cherry Street (another big hill). Tell them to stay on the right side of the road up Cherry. Cherry turns a slight right into Finley. Runners will continue to Placer High stadium, up Agard Street over the railroad tracks.

Help direct runners along the course. Runners will approach this intersection after crossing railroad tracks on Agard. Instruct runners to turn right up Belmont Drive and then turn right on the bike trail toward Ponderosa Cider. This turn will be clearly marked and you should be able to see them turning onto the bike path. Participants will run on short bike path into the alley, past Ponderosa Cider and Maki Heating & Air, then turn onto Pacific and back to Railhead Park.

Sweepers

Sweepers stay at the very back, ensuring no one gets left behind, helping with course safety, and guiding slower participants or those who need to stop and go back to the finish. This is often a slow walking pace (especially if there are little kids) and you'll stay with the last person to the end.
