Aid Station

You must be 12 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

Aid station volunteers set up cups, pour water, hand out cups, and cheer on the participants. There is one aid station on the 5K course, near Taylor Park. Aid station volunteers will be at the aid station for about 2 hours.

Aid station volunteering is ideal for our younger volunteers and groups of volunteers.

Aid station volunteering is on race day. 2023 times are TBD.

Finish Line

You must be 12 or older to volunteer for this task.

At least 1 more volunteer needed.

Details

Finish line volunteers set up cups, pour water and sports drink hand out cups, and cheer on the participants. They also set up and hand out snacks. The finish line is located near Oak Park and River Forest High School. Finish line volunteers will be at the finish line for about 2 hours.

Finish line volunteering is ideal for our younger volunteers and groups of volunteers.

Finish line volunteering is on race day. 2023 times are TBD.

Course Marshal

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

At least 1 more volunteer needed.

Details

Course marshals assist with traffic management and flow by standing at intersections along the race courses. Course marshals help drivers understand that the race courses are closed to all vehicle traffic. Course marshals also cheer on the participants, so bring your cow bells.

Course marshals usually walk or bike to their location, which could be up to 2 miles from Oak Park and River Forest High School. Course marshals will be on the course for about 2 hours.

Course marshals are age 18+ as they are usually stationed a block away from other volunteers.

Set Up

You must be 12 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

Set up volunteers arrive early on race day and help with setting up the race. Set up volunteers put up tables, fill water and sports drink containers and cups, place trash, recycling, and compost bins, hang signs, and more.

Set up volunteering is ideal for people who also want to run or walk the 5K.

Clean Up

You must be 12 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

Clean up volunteers stay after the races have finished and help with taking down and cleaning up the race. Set up volunteers take down tables, empty water and sports drink containers and cups, and more.

Clean up volunteering is ideal for people who also want to run or walk the 5K.

Race Day Packet Pick Up

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

Race day packet pick up volunteers arrive early on race day and help participants pick up their shirts and bibs.

Race day packet pick up volunteers must have a smart phone and be willing to download the RaceDay CheckIn App.

Race day packet pick up is not an ideal position for people who also want to run or walk the 5K.

Volunteer Check In

Volunteer Check In volunteers help other volunteers check in to their assignments.

Volunteer Check In is not an ideal position for people who also want to run or walk the 5K.

Volunteer Check In volunteers must have a smart phone and be willing to download the RaceDay CheckIn App.

Gear Check

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

Gear check volunteers assist participants with checking in their gear before the races and then retrieving their gear after the races. Gear check volunteers are asked to stay with gear check for the duration of the events, therefore, it is not an ideal role for someone who is also running or walking the 5K.

Award Ceremony (must be OPRC member)

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

Award Ceremony volunteers assist with handing out awards and prizes after the 5K races. Award Ceremony volunteers must be OPRC members.

Lead Bicycles (must be an OPRC member)

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

At least 1 more volunteer needed.

Details

Lead bicycles will help the fastest runners navigate the 5K and Youth Mile courses. Lead bicycle volunteers must provide their own bike and helmet. They must also be OPRC members.

Mile Marker 1 volunteers will set up the first mile marker.

Details

Set up (Saturday) volunteers will assist with moving items from the OPRC storage unit to Oak Park and River Forest High School. They will also set up at the high school.

Set up volunteers must be OPRC members.

Hang No Parking Signs (Friday)

You must be 12 or older to volunteer for this task.

At least 1 more volunteer needed.

Details

Hang no parking sign volunteers will walk, bike, or drive around Oak Park to hang No Parking signs along the race courses. Volunteers will be paired up and provided with maps, tape, and tape guns.

Poster Blitz

You must be 12 or older to volunteer for this task.

At least 1 more volunteer needed.

Details

Poster blitz volunteers walk, bike, or drive around Oak Park and neighboring towns to ask businesses if we can hang a Good Life Race poster in their window. Volunteers also ask the business if they would like to help sponsor the race.
