Details

Give runners their running bibs/packets, checking their names against the registration list. Each runner should receive safety pins with their bib. Children may need assistance with bibs. Please arrive by 7:00 AM. .

Parking Lot Marshal Medium Priority

Details

Guide participants to park efficiently and in the right location at the Glenn Dale Splash Pool parking lot. Wear a reflective vest and carry a flag to direct drivers into the parking area.

This is a pre-race volunteer job. You may also run in the 10K if you volunteer for the parking area.

Head Course Marshal High Priority

Details

Organize course marshals for both the full 10K and the Kids Fun Run race courses. Assign positions on both race courses for all the marshals. Hand out flags and reflective vests then collect them at the end of each race. Have 8 copies of the Springburst course map to mark marshal locations - hand these out to marshals by 8:15 am on race day.

Location

Meet all marshals at the start line, near the Glendale Splash pool parking lot at the WB&A trail. Orient marshals to the course - make sure they communicate with other marshals so all turns and cross roads have a course marshal.

Course Marshal High Priority

Details

Directing runners and keeping them safe along the route is critical. As runners approach you will keep them on course by flagging and cheering! You must be able/willing to stop pedestrian and/or vehicle traffic while runners cross intersections, and keep pedestrians off the running course. Directing runners at the turn-around point is key. Standing for long periods of time is required. Reflective vest must be worn.

Location

You will be assigned an intersection along the race course by the Head Marshal.

Water Stop Help High Priority

This volunteer task is full.

Details

Hand out cups of water to runners as they pass your station.
You will see runners as they pass you AND as they return along the same course (at the 2-mile and 4-mile marks of the course). Be prepared to provide water to runners going in both directions.
Water stop volunteers ALSO act as Course Marshals, keeping runners on the race course moving in the right direction.

Location

At the 2 mile mark of the Springburst 10K race course. (This is also the 4-mile mark, since the course is out and back.)

Kids Fun Run Lead High Priority

You must be 14 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

Run with the children who are participating in the Kids Fun Run 1K. Be a cheerful Pied Piper! Keep kids on their race course, make sure they turn around at the right place, encourage kids who are struggling. Run back and forth to monitor all participating children racers.
Must carry a cell phone. Alert Race Director and medical personnel if any child is injured or has a medical issue while participating in the race.

1K Kids Run Start/Finish Line, on the WB&A trail adjacent to the Glenn Dale Splashpool parking lot.

Kids Run Assistant High Priority

You must be 14 or older to volunteer for this task.

At least 1 more volunteer needed.

Details

Assist Kids Fun Run Lead in keeping the kids safe and on the course.

Location

Race start area, check in with the Zumba leader for instructions. Perfect job for high schoolers who need volunteer hours.

Race Timer Assist/Start and Finish Line High Priority

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Photographer High Priority

Details

Very important! Capture photos of participants before and after the run, and individual photos of runners as they race.
Important to take photos of winners in each category receiving prizes, and many photos of successful runners crossing the finish. PGRC will publicize these photos to amplify the welcoming nature of our club, and celebrate each participant.
Photographer needs to bring your own equipment, including flash and extra batteries or digital storage units.

Location

Able to move around start and finish area, including the Kids 1K run course. If possible, include portions of the 10K race course beyond the start and finish line.

Lead Cyclist High Priority

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

Ride the full race course prior to the race start, making sure the path is clear of debris and that course marshals, signage and water station volunteers are in place. Always stay ahead of the lead runner - if possible, ride the course and return prior to the race start (so you don't accidentally interfere with the runners themselves.)

Location

Arrive at the Glendale Splashpool parking lot. Bring bike, helmet, bike lock, and any other personal biking equipment including a cell phone. If you notice problems on the course, be prepared to call back to the race directors to report the problem and where it is located on the course.

Sweeper Medium Priority

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Run or cycle at the end of the race, following all runners safely to the finish. Please arrive by 8:30 am.

Popsicle procurement Medium Priority

Details

Purchase three dozen fruit flavored popsicles (frozen) on the way to the race. Bring your own small cooler with ice to store the popsicles between the store and the end of the Kids Fun Run race, when we will hand out the popsicles.
We only need popsicles for the children's race, not the adult 10K race. Keep receipts - PGRC will reimburse this purchase.

Kids Fun Run race finish area, on the WB&A trail at the end of the Splashpool parking lot.

Refreshment Table Medium Priority

This volunteer task is full.

Details

Hand out snacks and drinks after the race. Monitor and help collect refreshment containers, water bottles, etc. and encourage runners to pick up after themselves.

There will be two groups of racers; children from the 1K fun run, and everyone else from the 10K run. Please arrive by 8:30 am.

Near the Finish line, WB&A trail, adjacent to the Glenn Dale Splash Pool parking lot.
