A race marshal's primary role is to keep runners and walkers safe during the race. Volunteers will help guide runners to the start, warn them of obstacles, and communicate about approaching traffic. They will help to discourage spectators from entering the course, assist runners who need help, including seeking medical support, monitor road crossings, and man checkpoints to give out water.
